16th Century Cottage Situated Opposite The Medieval Landgate Arch
Chesterfield Cottage is a charming 16th century cottage, located in the heart of the conservation area of ancient Rye. It is situated opposite the Landgate arch and is just minutes from the historic attractions, antique shops, art galleries, bars and restaurants that Rye has to offer.
The cottage has two bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 4. There is a double bedroom on the first floor and a second bedroom in the loft that has two small (2ft6") singles.
The bedrooms and bathroom of the cottage are accessed via steep spiral staircases which may not be suitable for the elderly or very young. There is also a small step between the lounge and kitchen.
The cottage was brimming with character, featuring exposed beams, original stone walls, and vintage decor, the cozy fireplace was the perfect touch, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The host was exceptionally welcoming. Location was perfect as well! Highly recommend!
A lovely little cottage retaining many original features. A well set out kitchen, given the space constraints, and a clean, well maintained bathroom. Comfy for 2 adults, with the furniture, log burner and exposed beams making the sitting room very cosy. The stairs are (very) steep, and the property would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues, but that is flagged in the description. Very central location for Rye, and easy parking in the cattle market car park. There is also short stay parking immediately outside the property, making it easy to unpack on arrival and pack up again when leaving. Lots of lovely pubs and restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes easy walk. Highly recommended for couples.
This little cottage always makes us smile. It is cosy and comfortable. It has everything needed for a self catering break. It's quaint and located in a super spot near the shops. We'll be back next December all being well
We have been in the house as a familiy with 4 persons and for 4 nights. For us as 4 people was the house very tightly especially the livingroom where you sitting to eat your breakfast or lunch.
We spent a few days in beautiful Rye and really enjoyed our time in the cottage. The location is great and the decor is cozy. We enjoyed the small garden to have a coffee there in the morning or to sit outside in the evening.
A fascinating old house in a great location, great to stay somewhere interesting but it is small and with low ceilings. Stairs require reasonable mobility, parking outside is short term, there is easy and cheap parking around the corner on Rope St.
We have stayed at Chesterfield Cottage many times and have always enjoyed it. If you are staying in true this location really canât be beaten. Literally seconds from the famous Rye landgate and all of the local pubs and restaurants. Also only a few miles from Camber Sands. The cottage itself is very quaint and comfortable and we have found it to always be clean and well maintained. Thoroughly recommended if you want to visit Rye.
Our family of 4 plus woofer dog had a great time and Chesterfield cottage was great to base ourselves from. The courtyard was a little suntrap in the afternoons for the very rare times we actually stayed in the cottage during the day. Comfy and everything we needed - thank you again Richard for having us!
A brilliant place to stay in the centre of Rye so everywhere is walkable. Very very old so you canât expect perfection. Top tip is to use the Rope Walk car park at ÂŁ2.50 for 24 hours, pay for you full stay upfront but donât go for a drive out at the weekend and expect to be able to find a space when you come back unless itâs in the evening. We would definitely stay there again!
Charming and cosy ancient cottage, perfect location
The listing for this charming cottage describes it perfectly; this is a delightful place in the heart of Rye and perfect for exploring this lovely town. One of the best restaurants in the town and the outright best pub in town (in our humble opinion), are just a few doors down the street.
This cosy cottage was perfect for my wife and I; and easily accommodated my sister too when she joined us for a few days of our stay. The small kitchen is very well equipped and there's a pleasant and peaceful walled garden out back.
The host was friendly and helpful, sending us maps and information about the city and preparing the lovely attic room (great views) for my sister's visit.
There is 2-hour parking right outside the cottage, convenient for loading and unloading people and things, and very cheap 24-hour parking just around the corner
