Cleanliness and comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast. Only negative was that we were on first floor by the road which was very, very noisy all night. Another family member was by the entrance to the hallway. They kept hearing the banging of the door opening and closing.

I would categorize myself as a person who travels regularly for business and as such I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels, most of those being in a category (mid-luxury/luxury) Riu believes it is in. In all my years of traveling, I have never experienced a check in process like Riu’s. First the staff member asked for the IDs of all adults in our party. I am used to providing my own and thought this was strange but complied. Here’s where it started to get really weird…she wanted the names and ages of my 4 younger children (we have 5 ages 9-18). Again, weird but I complied. Then during mindless (I guess required) chit chat during conversation she asks why we are staying for one night here on July 4. She literally asked me “don’t they have fireworks back home where you live?” Wow, incredibly rude. Then came a short litany of documents to sign and initial w pen/paper. I’m pretty sure the entire inquisition, I mean check-in process, took at least 20 minutes. It really doesn’t have to be this complicated and in retrospect I found it a bit invasive and suspicious. Hopefully will get to speak w someone while here, but only here for a day as the first stop of our road trip down the coast. If you’re parents traveling w kids, I’d look for a different hotel. We were clearly not from their target guest category and it showed.

Noisy room on the ground floor. You could hear every word if someone walked by and the generator from the parking lot across the street kept we awake half of the night. Definitely not what I expect from a RIU Hotel. Very disappointed. Maybe you should invest in new windows. However, location and breakfast were great.
