This was quite possibly the best hotel we've ever stayed at. The views of the lake from every vantage point on the property are beyond stunning. The food at the hotel was by far the best we had anywhere in Guatemala. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating. The room was stunning. And we absolutely loved San Marcos - everything you need is at most a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Truly can't recommend Kula Maya enough.
This hotel is very beautiful and comfortable. The location is great, close to many restaurants, shops, and to the water taxis. We had some of the best food on our trip at the restaurant. If you are vegan, the restaurant has plenty of options. The staff are also wonderful, they helped us decide where to visit and helped us book a taxi back to the airport. I would definitely recommend staying here!
We loved our room it was super nice with beautiful view of the lake. The room was spacious and clean, the bathtub was nice addition.
Sadly the WiFi wasn’t working that well, but is the only bad thing we can say.
Really recommend this place.
This is absolutely the best and most beautiful place to stay in San Marcos. The vibe is very different from the rest of the town, but personally I was grateful for that. It's a bit pricey of course, but if you're looking for a quiet and beautiful place to spend a day by the pool and enjoy delicious food, this is absolutely the place to go. The staff are lovely, And if you want to go out in San Marcos it's just steps away. Highly recommend!
The only thing I feel compelled to add is that the restaurant next door plays music until 10:00 p.m. every night and it definitely feels like it's in your room lol. Made no difference to me because I can fall asleep anywhere, but definitely something to consider if that would be hard for you.
Spectacular view, location and restaurant.
Little privacy if you are choosing the dome and a little expensive, but great spot to live the San Marcos experience
Directly next door to a bar that plays very loud music until 10 pm. The room is uninhabitable until after 10pm.
Nice staff and nice dining facilities, but not recommended.
Kula Maya is definitely the highlight of San Marcos, having the most excellent views and a friendly staff. The town is very charming and much more enjoyable than some of the busier towns on other parts of the lake. The restaurant has great food and a nice high-end bar selection. Prices are quite a bit higher than anything in the area, but the atmosphere makes it very worth it. The rooms could have been better-sealed to keep wind and bugs out, but I guess it can't be perfect in an eco-friendly resort in paradise. Definitely worth staying here, highly recommend.
I love the location and the amenities that this places has to offer. It was easy to schedule a massage or anything you needed with the concierge. The food in the restaurant was delicious and always prepared fresh, and the rooms were breathtaking. I will definitely return soon.
Kula Maya is my favorite oasis on the lake! The property is breathtaking, a peace of Heaven in nature.
The team is so kind and professional, very accommodating. Sofia is the sweetest and so quick to help us plan transportation, laundry, reservations, etc.
Our room was so unique and super comfortable, they thought of the smallest details to make our stay memorable.
The food was phenomenal, and the hotel restaurant was the best from our entire trip in Guatemala :)
Thank you, we will be back!
Our room the master suite was absolutely stunning. Particularly enjoyed the amazing balcony with stunning views and the very large bathroom with the rain shower and tub. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, my friend got severe food poisoning when we were out in San Pedro (recommend eating in Santa Cruz and San Marcos - don't eat in the backpacker town San Pedro). Even though it was evening and all the clinics in San Marcos were closed, one of the hotel staff member called one of their family members who was a physcian in town to open the clinic so my friend could get IV antiemetics and IV fluids. He also arrange transport to escort us there. I cannot thank the hotel staff enough for their assistance with helping my ill friend!! Would definitely stay again!!
The property is beautiful, just like the pictures with a great lakeside view of the volcanos. I stayed in a dome which was well decorated and very large, I particularly liked the deck with chairs to enjoy the view.
The downside:
- It’s very pricey! You’re basically paying for the view. Breakfast isn’t included in the price. Whilst it is beautiful, there are airbnb options nearby with similar views at a fraction of the cost.
- It’s very noisy. My room was next to the road that has karaoke bar. They played loud music until midnight. The hotel provides earplugs but they do nothing to help you get to sleep. This should be reflected in the prices the hotel is charging. A good night’s sleep is the minimum I would expect.
- Hot water is minimal. Both times I used the shower the water was cold. After letting it run for a few mins it was lukewarm at best. Again this should be reflected in the prices the hotel is charging.
Overall a decent stay for a couple of nights. The staff are friendly and it was a convenient location for the activities I wanted to do. The hotel should adjust its prices for a fairer reflection of the stay. At the current cost I would stay elsewhere if I visited the area again.
Amazing stay! The most beautiful views and property at the lake. The drinks and food were delicious! The staff was so helpful, accommodating asks super generous!
