NEW TO VRBO! -Step into Savannah’s past at The Dueling Sisters Inn. This 1848 garden flat was Mildred’s — the barefoot sister who planted herbs, told stories with biscuits, and left love in every floorboard. Just 2 blocks from Forsyth Park, this 2-bedroom retreat features 14’ ceilings, original pine floors, a screened porch, and private courtyard garden. Originally Mildred's parlor, dinning room, kitchen and "trunk room"- full of charm! Stay where the wind chimes still whisper—and the house remembers.
That the wind chimes in the courtyard sound different in the morning.
And that if you whisper a compliment about her biscuits, Mildred might just whisper back.
This is Mildred’s Garden Flat, tucked inside The Dueling Sisters Inn — a pair of 1848 cypress-clapboard townhomes once built by a doting father for his two fiercely different daughters. Mildred (the barefoot gardener, calm and grounded) lived here.
Her sister Myrle (the champagne-sipping party girl) lived next door. They shared exactly one space: the front porch — and barely tolerated sharing that.
About the Inn:
Now lovingly restored into four private vacation units, The Dueling Sisters Inn still echoes with the sass, spirit, and stubbornness of its original residents.
And if you're sensitive to energy, well... you might feel like you're not alone.
Some guests swear Mildred’s presence still lingers — not spooky, just warm. Protective. Like someone fluffing the pillows behind you or opening the window just a crack when the cornbread’s cooling.
Inside Your Flat:
This garden-level unit was once Mildred’s parlor, kitchen, dining room, and “trunk room” — always ready for a friend dropping in. It’s now a private 2-bedroom flat with:
Two comfy queen bedrooms, each cozy and serene
14-foot ceilings and original heart pine floors from 1848
Wood-framed windows that flood the space with light (and gossip, probably)
A full bath with fluffy towels, and a small washer/dryer for sandy feet
A well-loved kitchen, simple but soulful, stocked for biscuits or brunch
It’s not perfect — and that’s the point. The floors creak. A shelf leans. That’s just the house remembering.
Outside:
Enter through the shared front porch, where the sisters once sat — or stared each other down
Enjoy your private screened back porch, perfect for coffee, novels, or eavesdropping on squirrels
Relax in the enclosed courtyard garden, where herbs still grow wild, wind chimes still sing, and something just feels... peaceful. String lights, cooking herbs and outdoor dining now dominate the space now- where Mildred once raised her herbs and pet chicken named Sofia ( We aren't kidding).
Meet Miss Stacy:
Our beloved housekeeper, Ms. Stacy, has been with the inn for years — she’s sweet as sweet tea and tough as old nails. She fluffs, folds, scrubs, and scolds the ghosts when needed. She might miss a washcloth now and then (she swears they hide from her), but she cleans this place like it’s her mama’s house. If you feel extra comfortable — thank her. If something’s off — she’ll probably beat us to fixing it. Her heart and intentions are always in the best place.
You’re in the Heart of Historic Savannah:
2 blocks from Forsyth Park (the dreamy, Spanish moss-draped part)
A short walk to downtown shops, cafes, ghost tours, and bars
Surrounded by charm, walkability, and the soft hush of Southern nights.
Final Word:
This isn’t a condo or a cookie-cutter stay. It’s a soulful, lived-in, story-rich space. A real home from another era. If you’re looking for perfect? Head to a hotel...
If you want warmth, wonder, and maybe a whispered hello from a barefoot Southern auntie in the garden...
Then baby, you’re home.
