Welcome to "Shade Mountain Retreat." This is such a lovely private setting, perched on the side of a ridge among the rolling hills of Juniata County!

Watch the wildlife as you sip your coffee on the porch, relax in the hot tub, take a nature walk on the trails (28 private acres to explore!) and enjoy the numerous cozy spaces this property has to offer!

This VRBO rental is fantastic and Jake, the host, was easy to communicate with and very responsive. The home is beautiful and spacious. The dining room table expands to fit a small army! The kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking equipment one could possibly want, and there was plenty of plates, bowls and silverware to accommodate a large group. We appreciated the extra full size fridge/freezer in the garage, to minimize the trips into town for groceries. Also, the hot tub was glorious after a long hike, and we enjoyed the fire pit most every night. WiFi worked well for those of us who needed to communicate with our office, and WiFi calling on our mobile phones was very clear with a strong signal. Overall, a wonderful experience with this VRBO rental! Highly recommended!

Great Family Weekend Trip

Every year our family of 16 tries to spend several days together enjoying each others company. This year we went to this property in East Waterford and loved the property and all of its amenities. From the pool table and ping pong table, to the fire pit, swing and rocking chairs on the porches, to the hot tub and sauna, everyone found something to do that was fun and relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds comfortable and the manager and housekeeper went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with others!

Amazing home and location

I can not say enough good things about this home!It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The home is gorgeous! It is well stocked with everything you could think of. The hosts instructions were easy to understand and and he was very prompt with communication. Everything is as described or better! The beds are very comfortable and so are the couches.

The Perfect Getaway!

This was such a great spot for our family vacation. Our group of 11 had such a relaxing, amenity-filled, and spacious getaway! The host, Jake, really went above and beyond with his communication throughout the weekend.The attention to detail with the decoration, furniture, and stocked kitchen, really made our stay extra relaxing. So many places to hang out, lots of chairs couches and tables to puzzle and game!The hot tub and sauna were excellent spaces to unwind and the garage game room was perfect for those who stayed up a bit later than the rest!Can’t recommend this place enough!

Fantastic Home for a Weekend Escape

This home was truly the long weekend getaway of my dreams. It has all the coziness of a cabin weekend with modern amenities including a hot tub and sauna. The house was spacious and clean, had enough room for 6 couples to all have private spaces (with room to spare!) and large "family" dinners, and lots of tucked away spaces for relaxation (for example, we used one loft TV room for football watching and the downstairs TV family room for a nice movie night, plus don't forget the ping pong table in the detached garage and the amazing firepit!). It snowed while we were there and Jake, the host, did a phenomenal job communicating with us and making sure that someone came out to clear the driveway so we could safely head out on check out day. In short, it was perfection and I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful place to getaway with friends. My heart is so full and I am so thankful!

PSU Weekend Getaway

Jake, the property host, was a pleasure to work with on any and all details of the house for the weekend getaway our group of friends that were in the area for the PSU - OSU game. The house was exactly as described, and the reviews are spot on! Spacious, clean, and everything you and guests could need. We have already talked about planning another trip to stay here in the future. Highly recommended!

Overall very happy with our stay! Jake is a great host and our group enjoyed the spacious property especially having fun at the ping pong table, relaxing in the hot tub and sauna, making s’mores at the fire pit, and getting our exercise walking through the nature trail

Extended family gathering

Shade Mountain Retreat is a delightful place for an extended family gathering such as ours. The property is beautifully furnished ans maintained, with a roomy kitchen, lots of pots and pans, and abundant dishes and silverware. The wide-open central space and looong dining room table were ideal for our group encompassing 3 generations. We particularly liked all the wood paneling. There were lots of fun things to do, from indoor and outdoor games to hiking in the woods. All in all, a very enjoyable week for the entire family.

Wonderful Getaway

House was the perfect location for our multi-family holiday Celebration. The hot tub, ping pong table etc was enjoyed by all ages. Plenty of space to have alone time and come together for meals and games. Most well stocked house we’ve ever rented (kitchen items, bathrooms items, towels, trash bags, etc). Jake was a wonderful host and was very responsive.

A beautiful labor weekend with church family!!!!

We had such of beautiful time in the middle of the nature, the air, the surrounding area with just us and God’s creations!!!! If you are looking for a quite place to be outside of your house and enjoy nature this is a great option!!!! Jake is awesome as an owner, very communicative. We had no problems staying here. Minus details that were very well addressed. If we will need Jakes place again. We will be very happy to stay here!!!

Perfect spot

We recently spent a week at Shade Mountain Retreat with our family of 16. It's a wonderful property for a multi-generational vacation. Hiking trails and a firepit were available for our active members. A pool table was well used by all 3 generations present. The large property gave us space for many activities. There are extra activities available in the area. Our only concern was a lack of cell phone coverage (not Jake's fault)

Extended Family Gathering

This beautiful, clean property, situated in a lush green forest, was the perfect choice for our large extended family gathering in May. We were 14 guests of many ages, but there was always a possibility we might have had more, and it was nice to know we had room to sleep 20 just in case. Our elderly folks were quite comfortable among the 4 queen bedrooms on the main floor, without ever using stairs, to their delight. The kids were quite happy to be together in bedrooms on the lower floor, near the pool table (The site of a secret midnight pool tournament... rumor has it.) There are many different family rooms sprinkled around the 2 buildings, providing the various age groups to gather independently. Other indoor activities are available, and the very large ping pong game room above the garage was perfect for our rainy day. A VERY long dining table was key for seating 12 of us with even a few more at the counter, and the two extra refrigerators in the garage meant that our many meals over 5 days were possible without any food runs. Relatives all got a chance to reconnect while seated together. The large BBQ got used every night, and can officially fit 16 large steaks. Hiking trails (hilly) provided a bit of exercise and bird-spotting, while the fire pit was a big hit in the chilly evening. (Thanks to our awesome host for providing firewood!) Our host, Jake, was very responsive, before and throughout the rental process. We could not have asked for a better experience.

Escape from the hustle & bustle of city life

Wow is the first word that came out of everybody’s mouth. This place accommodated 20+ of our extended family to celebrate my mother in law’s 70th Birthday. The property is immaculate, very private, full stocked and well maintained. Hot tub, pool table, ping pong table and the Basketball hoop were a big hit. The hiking trail is definitely a must. Jake the host was awesome with communication and even had a welcome basket full of goodies. We had a Wonderful time with this property. Will definitely come back or will try Jake’s other property.
