Loch Leven Trailhead Cabin
Cozy rustic cabin situated next to Loch Leven trailhead taking you into the heart of the Sierra Nevada's. Miles of trails leading to vista's, meadows and crystal clear mountain lakes. After a day of hiking relax on the patio or in front of the fire.
The cabin is in a nice location. Things are well thought out and maintained with just a few exceptions. If you're looking for a central location as a home base for Sierra hiking, this is great.
I should have noticed on the map how close it is to hwy 80, traffic noise is quite loud when outside. Not bad inside but can still hear it. Older style construction so stairs were very steep, my disabled wife was not comfortable using them. There is a hideaway bed downstairs so that is where we slept. I wish river access was better, about 1/8th mi. Hike and thick brush along the riverbanks.
Many hazards throughout house and exterior. Kitchen fell very short of being usable. Unhealthy cooking environment, due to unusable pans, old used sponge left for us to clean dishes with, dirty cups and appliances. Broken faucet. Shower unusable unless you like them cold⊠just to name a few of our issues with this stay
We loved our time at the Big Bend Cabin! We stayed a cold weekend in late Spring, but the wall heater and fireplace kept us cozy. This is the perfect home base for all the adventures in the area. Perfect for kids, lots to explore nearby. Communication with Carah beforehand was great. Thank you for sharing your family cabin with us!
Perfect quick walk to Rainbow Lodge for wedding event
Easy check-in, quaint cabin with sweet personal touches, upstairs had comfortable and cozy rooms. Great place to get away and unplug if desired, (great reception with Verizon) and close to lots of hiking. Prompt and easy communication with Carah the host. We truly enjoyed our stay..
Great cabin but I don't think I'd bring my dogs again. The swimming holes are a drive, not near the cabin. I was under the impression it is close to the river and swimming holes but it isn't . There's a busy highway within 100 feet of the property. I had to really keep an eye on the dogs. It would be great without dogs. Nice place but the heat in July was over 100 degrees and the upstairs did not cool down enough to sleep. I'd stay here again but with different expectations.
I book a cabin in the woods every year for my wife's birthday and she had one request for this year's cabin: a fire place. This cabin did not disappoint at all. The host even set up the fireplace for us and had plenty of wood. The cabin is in a perfect location that's walkable to an incredible hiking trail and only a short drive into Donner lake and Truckee. The only marks against it were the highway noise when you're outside and you have neighbors though no one was home for our visit. We're not familiar with the area being east coasters that got cabins in the remote Appalachians previously so I chalk those items up to our ignorance. Outside of that, the cabin was clean and stocked with linens, towels, and all the necessary supplies for a weekend stay.
