Cons: Tight parking. Rooms a little dated. Bed has center indentation making it a somewhat painful night. Pros: Quiet area. Rooms are pretty sound proof considering that was a live band nearby and we couldn't hear much of it. The family room is quite large with good amount of space for a family of 5. The price was good for a Sunday night compared to the other hotels.

Just love the vibe here. Hanging in the beer garden reading, short walk to the beach, hot tubbing under the stars and a comfy bed. What more could you ask for?

This was my second time staying at base camp. Wasn’t expecting to get the same room on my last visit but I did. Only complaints I have are: outlets on table needs to be fix since all the sockets are loose, heater from fireplace wouldn’t turned off completely due to pilot still on when I tried turning it off. The room was extremely warm and had to open the windows and turn of AC all due to heater won’t turned off. Did point this out to receptions which was offered to have someone look at it but was leaving next day and wasn’t worth the hassle. Since room was across hot tub, maybe close off hot tub at certain time caused there were people going in and out of hot tub at 1a-3a plus slamming the gates and being super loud were people are sleeping at that hour.

Poorly designed family room

We stayed in the family room with the bunk beds but the bunks were so shaky and hard to get onto. Since the bunk beds were right over the head of the bed, we hit our foreheads on the metal railings a few times. That made it really hard to get in and out of bed. The lighting in the room is also inadequate, so the room was so dim. There also aren’t enough outlets available (only 1). The shower was very small and cramped. There also wasn’t enough parking at night so we had to park on the street far away and walk to the hotel.

The name says it all. Cant wait to return!

The name sets the stage. Somehow this place feels like a little community of adventuresome souls - all different ages, including the dogs I was able to meet. There was even a live band. And though my room was on the 2nd story above where the band was playing, i couldnt hear the music when I closed the door. There's also a pub right there with stuff to munch and all kinds of things to drink. It really is like a campsite with a bunch of new old friends. So surprised!! As for the room, the best bed Ive ever slept in and I travel ALOT so Ive slept in all kinds of beds. The room is spartan-remember, this is base camp. And it is meant to be rustic. But it has all the necessities and space for gear or bikes...maybe even kayaks. I will be back for pleasure and I will be bringing my pack. I stopped going on vacations because my dogs weren't welcome. They are here. Truly. Around the camp fire, picnic areas, and so on. Now I cant wait for the snow!!!

Staff was all super friendly. great cafe for breakfast in the am, nice fire tables. We arrived late and there was an on-site restarurant/brewery and outdoor music going on with fire tables - it was great! room decor was quant/appropriate for the area. enjoyed walking to the lake in the a.m.

Not wildlife-friendly

I wouldn't stay here unless you want to support a business that allows bears to repeatedly get into trash at night, which leads to bears becoming habituated and having to be euthanized. As we were unloading our luggage around 10pm, a bear knocked over a trash can and started eating trash in the covered parking area about 15 ft from us. We called the front desk and they said "this happens every night." Every business has a responsibility to keep wildlife safe by using bear-resistant trash cans or stowing away the cans at dusk. This is an easy problem to solve. There should also be a lot more signage around the parking area and in rooms/walkways to educate visitors about not leaving food in cars, etc. Please do the right thing to keep wildlife wild.
