Dated hotel
Hotel was dated and very basic. The rooms were small and the walls were thin.
Was expecting more for the price paid.
The food was delicious. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The Spa was very relaxing - needs a bit of updating but had a great time.

The room was spotless, big comfortable bed.
The meal service was slow and needing to ask serveral tones to pay. Food was ok pork meal only 3 very thin carrot and 3 runner beans.
Breakfast was missing lots of choice ie i fkavour jam, tea machine broke (later fixed) sparce butter no margarine. Cold beans, limited pastries only 1 choice. Breakfast really not up to scratch.
I last visited the BG some 20 years ago- i'm sorry to say- it's not changed and that's unfortunate. It's such a beautiful building and grounds- but needs serious TLC in the bedrooms- as this is where it fails miserably. Dirty toilet- it was though it hadnt been cleaned out and need bleach to clear the stains. It got worse as you lifted the seat- a grime i cannot explain- but it was rank. Worse still- the walls are paper thin- so you can hear conversations - however- our experience was this conversation was at 3am and had to moved. We didnt experience the spa or breakfast- but we'd seen enough and was glad to check out. I'm a seasoned traveller- work and pleasure- and i would go as far to say that this is in my top 5 of worst hotels i've been to. That said- it has so much potential to be an incredible hotel- such a shame.

Staff where very friendly and pleasant, especially reception and dining room staff, breakfast staff particularly welcoming.
Very disappointed with evening meal service, waited a while for food to arrive, soup was luke warm. The food we ordered as one of the meals was not correct, can’t remember what it was but it definitely was not sea bass which came with its head on , very off putting for someone who detests fish. No initial apology off our waiter however another waiter did express his sincere apology for the mistake. The wrong dish then provoked a further delay. All in all we were sat in the dining room for over 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. There were only approximately 10 other customers in there so really unsure what the delay was .
Hotel approach is lovely and we would stay here again however there are some areas which require some TLC.
Used the pool facilities which was lovely although the changing areas are definitely in need of some TLC
This is hotel which is gradually being updated and offers much potential. The staff were on the whole pleasant and friendly, mostly inexperienced but tried hard. With further training and leadership will be assets to the hotel.
