The guests will have the entire unit as well as the deck outside available with access. There is one central staircase that is shared with neighboring units to access the front door.

Tucked along the southwestern shores of Mount Desert Island, Southwest Harbor is a charming fishing village known for its working waterfront, stunning harbor views, and laid-back atmosphere. Often considered the quieter counterpart to Bar Harbor, this coastal town offers a more relaxed and authentic Maine experience while still providing easy access to Acadia National Park.

Home to a thriving boatbuilding industry, Southwest Harbor boasts a strong maritime heritage, with local shipyards crafting some of the finest yachts in the world. The town’s picturesque harbor is dotted with lobster boats, sailboats, and waterfront restaurants serving up fresh-caught seafood.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, from the scenic trails of Western Mountain and Beech Cliffs to the serene beauty of Seawall and Echo Lake. The town also serves as a gateway to Great Cranberry and Little Cranberry Islands, accessible by ferry for those looking to explore Maine’s rugged offshore beauty.

This unit is on the 4th floor and is in a building that does not have an elevator. You will need to climb stairs to access this unit.

Please note that this building was built in 1920 and has limited insulation causing noise to pass easily through the units at times. This can come from neighboring units as well as noise from the street. There is a noise machine in each bedroom as well as earplugs if you are sensitive to noise when you sleep. The roadway next to the building is Maine State Route 102 that has traffic passing through at all hours, speed limit on the road is 30MPH. The amount of noise you may encounter can very depending on the road traffic, and how respectful neighbors are during your stay. If a guest does experience any excessive noise from neighbors they are able to reach out to us and we can help resolve the issue. The entire building observes a quiet time between 10:00PM-8:00AM, which includes running your laundry, as to not disturb the neighbors.
-Please note that you must be out of the Unit by 10:15AM the LATEST. You will receive a $150 fee if you are out of the unit later than 10:15AM and will be charged an additional $50 for every 15minute interval that you are late after that. We have had problems with guests leaving late in the past and need to make sure that our cleaning team has enough time to properly clean the unit before the next guests arrive.
-This building observes quiet time from 10:00PM-8:00AM and you are not allowed to make excessive noise or run the washer/dryer during those hours because of the noise it makes. This building is over 100+ years old and the walls are thinner than modern walls
-No pets are allowed in the unit. You will be charged a $400 Pet Fee if you are caught with a pet in the unit
-No parties or events are allowed in the unit. You will immediately be kicked out of the unit if you hold an event at the unit and will be charged a $1,000 fee

Beautiful, modern updated condo with comfortable beds & nice bathrooms. Small deck with a water view. Condo building is a small, restored, very old building, close to the street. The listing talks about noise & we did notice the traffic noise, mostly early in the mornings. Still, we’d stay there again & it didn’t disturb our sleep but you can hear it. Walk to the downtown area & short, pleasant drive to congested Bar Harbor. It was nice to retreat to a calmer, quieter SW Harbor.

Lovely location and well kept property. Southwest Harbor has a more local flavor rather versus the crowds (and lack of parking) in Bar Harbor. Staring the day with breakfast on the balcony, over looking the bay, was very relaxing.

Good, but noise issues and TV doesn't work

Some pros - the beds were comfy, convenient location to Acadia in Southwest Harbor, great dock overlooking the harbor which was great for fireworks! We enjoyed our overall stay, but as other reviewers mentioned, the noise is a very big issue for this property. The walls are PAPER thin - if someone drops anything above you, or walks, or moves a chair - the sound is very amplified. I knew this going in, but it was still crazy how much we heard every single movement of the rest of the building. It's definitely a very old building, which to be fair, seems to be the norm around Acadia (and they are very charming! just come with quirks). It ended up being the lease expensive thing for our group of 3 as we needed 2 bedrooms 2 baths, but I don't think it was worth the overall cost. Additionally, the TV did not work and was not connected to the internet, despite the property listing that there was indeed a working TV. We tried both nights to connect it to the internet that all of our phones were connected to, but that didn't work. Annoying because we specifically got a living room so we could all relax and watch TV after a long day of hiking.

Pleasant stay

Sparkling clean and very spacious with gorgeous waterfront view. We were in Driftwood. We appreciated the amenities provided, the clear instructions on check in and out as well as the tips provided. There are wonderful breakfast options nearby and while we spent most of our time in Bar Harbor and Acadia, we appreciated being away from a busy downtown. Just note that from the more popular Acadia attractions, this is about a 20 min drive. Road noise wasn't too bad, we used the fans and ran the AC and sound machine.

The place was clean and spacious. Each bedroom had their own bathroom. It was a convenient location with coffee shops and restaurants just a couple blocks away and walkable. It was conveniently located for our daily trips to Acadia and just a short 10 minutes from Bass Harbor lighthouse for sunset. There was also a grocery store just a couple minutes away.

Enjoyable Stay

We enjoyed our stay. The unit had nice water views. The kitchen was well stocked. The beds were comfortable and they have a washing machine. We had to hang out at the unit for most of one day while dealing with a dead rental car
the unit was comfortable and inviting for a day of puzzles and movie watching. There are several good restaurants within a short walking distance. If you are a light sleeper, go for the top unit. Even when trying to be quiet, the building transmits sounds.

Southwest Harbor in the Fall

This condo was absolutely perfect! It was in a great location. We were able to walk across the street for dinner and the shops along the main strip were all within walking distance, We went to see the fall color and they were spectacular. This condo was close to all of the places we wanted to visit. I highly recommend this place!

In Need of Upgrades

At a minimum, this property needs soundproofing, overhead lighting in the bedrooms and bathrooms, working locks on the patio sliders, and updated windows with secure screens. Additionally, the shower stall needs a handheld shower head because it’s virtually impossible to rinse the lower half of your body. Luggage racks would be a nice touch, as would a chair in each bedroom. Finally, we had safety concerns about the stability of the deck railings.

The reviews and description we read were accurate. The property seemed larger once we checked in. It was clean and spacious. Reviews and the description said there was road noise off the street/bedrooms which there was. We used fans and ear plugs provided. All in all a great stay.

Comfortable, clean, and peaceful

The location of this updated condo in an older home in Southwest Harbor is perfect to avoid the crowds of Bar Harbor during peak season. We enjoyed hiking and rock climbing in Acadia Nat'l Park, and kayaking on the northeast side of MDI, seeing seals, porpoises, bald eagles, and loons in the process. The condo offered comfortable beds, showers with great water pressures, and many basic supplies provided. We were not bothered by any road noise because we had the A/C units muffling that while we slept (warm week on MDI but cool in the bedrooms). Thank you for sharing these lovely accommodations!
