Pete's Place: Forest retreat near wineries, Blue Ridge School, and Shenandoah NP
Secluded guest apartment on 160 acres of private land nestled on a mountainside overlooking a working cattle farm and Shenandoah National Park. Perfect for small gatherings of friends, winery weekends, or a family holiday. We are a 15 minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park, an 8 minute drive from the Blue Ridge School, and minutes from the shops and restaurants of Stanardsville, VA and the award winning Monticello Wine Trail. Full kitchen and laundry amenities, an amazing view of the Blue Ridge mountains from the attached deck, and total privacy. Our family retreat for more than forty years is named after Dr. Frank "Pete" McMains, our grandfather, who built the farm complex. Pete donated 20% of his 50 year career as an orthopedic surgeon caring for severely disabled children pro bono at McMains Childrens' Developmental Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Let us share this magical place with your family (of origin or of choice)! PLEASE NOTE: the property can only be accessed by stairs and is NOT ADA accessible. NO PETS and NO SMOKING.
Awesome overnight trip with my boys for a mountain bike race. Very close to Blue Ridge school which was our race sight. Apartment is very cute, well equipped with everything. Beds were very comfy. I so appreciated the complimentary laundry soap that I forgot to bring. Will be back!!
Wife and I stayed here to visit family and do some exploring of area. We loved the house and the location. We live in the country so it was like being at home to us.
My friends and I enjoyed our stay at this lovely country home in VA. We wanted to stay close to Shenandoah NP and it was a quick drive over. Any issues we had the property manager and owner were quick to respond. Theyâre very kind. The place was very clean and provided us with enough amenities for a long weekend.
Pete's place was a great getaway. Just a quick drive to some great hikes in Shenandoah National Park. The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Plan to visit again in the fall!
Lovely property. The house fit us perfectly for what we needed. We had our two adult daughters with us, so the two twin beds in second bedroom were perfect. It was also close to the Shenandoah NP which we visited both days. There was a grocery store and places to eat not far up the road. If we were ever in the area again we would certainly stay here.
Great location if you are looking for peace and quiet (deer, squirrels, one fat gopher) and close proximity to the App Trail/Shenandoah National Park. I always enjoy having a full sized fridge, oven, and microwave when on vacation or traveling in order to avoid going out to eat ($$$) all the time and packing on the pounds. Full sized W/D as well helps avoid having to pack stale smelling clothes from your hikes!
