Poor experience

Upon arriving to the location I contacted the host because I was lost and there were no lights on the exterior or interior of the property. I did not get a response, though the message was read. Once I decided to use my cellphone flashlight to guide me around the property and found the entry door actually on the side of the property (not disclosed on the listing), I entered the property and turned on the lights. Upon turning on the lights I found a window near the entry door open. As a woman staying alone in a new area, coming to a property in the dark with no exterior lights on, and then entering the property to find a window open can be very unsettling. I reached back out to the property owner expressing my concerns and I continued to hear nothing back. I walked through the property on the phone with my partner checking for potential intruders, only to find an additional window open in the bedroom. At this point, I am alarmed and off guard, the host finally messages back stating they were there earlier to clean and that lights were left on. This clearly was not the case because no lights were on upon my arrival, and the property was covered in dried worms and insects, as well as dirt/webs and live insects. The host then says they left the windows open as a Covid policy - which was a relief to hear, but again should have been communicated prior to my arrival instead of left as a total surprise. After communicating this to the host with my other concerns with the property, the host responded in a demeaning manor insinuating I didn’t like their small town and it’s not meant for everyone (as if I was being snobby) when in reality I loved the location and my disappointment was in the property listing, not the area. The entire experience left me entirely uncomfortablek to stay and I ended up having to find a last minute alternate stay.

Beautiful little waterfront spot to get away from the crowds. Excellent communication for a contact-free check in/out. Full house, wifi (no mobile signal), coffee, full kitchen. It's a 15-20 min drive to services (groceries, restaurants) in either direction, about 1 hour into Acadia NP. Perfect little retreat and also reasonably convenient with a little planning. An absolute delight after driving through over crowded tourist towns on the way in.

Livable, but didn't love it

This place was livable for a couple of nights, but I wouldn't recommend it for a long term stay. The bed and couch are both really sunken/uncomfortable and should be replaced. Wi-fi was attached to the main house and relatively weak. Overall it was pretty beat. We also had someone knock at our door a couple of times at 10am who told us we needed to be checked out, but check-out was supposed to be at 11am. In pictures it looks like you're on the water, but in reality you're adjacent to the main property that looks more directly over the water, and you don't really have access. Good access to a few state parks down the road though, and the hosts were really nice in communicating. I feel bad leaving a bad review for that reason, but I'm trying to be honest!

Off The Grid in Maine

This guesthouse was clean and provided a roof over our heads. The pleasant and very responsive communication from the owner was the highlight. Unfortunately, the Wifi did not work. This guesthouse is a separate building from the main house, and while the main house is equipped with Wifi, the signal was not strong enough to make it to the guest house. The bed was very uncomfortable and I'd recommend to bring your own pillow. We arrived after dark, and the house was a bit hard to find. Truly tucked away in a remote part of Stockton Springs. The neighbors were not terribly friendly like most Mainers. It could have been our out of state license plates, but we were flipped off by a neighbor walking his dog as we were driving down the street. An adequate stay, but I would not stay again.
