CORTILE DAVĂ - Ortigia Wifi Apartment
CORTILE DAVĂ is a newly renovated 50sqm apartment, located on the ground floor of a very characteristic and quiet ancient courtyard in the heart of Ortigia "declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005 and included in the World Heritage List.
Many of the island's attractions are a stone's throw from the house: a short walk through one of the typical alleys of Ortigia will take you to Piazza del Duomo, with its unique Cathedral built on the ruins of a Greek temple (5th century BC).
Less than 150 meters away, you will find one of Syracuse's landmarks, the Temple of Apollo and only 700mt from the beautiful "Fontana di Aretusa", a freshwater spring populated by ducks and papyrus plants, whose origin is rooted in Greek mythology.
The Bellomo Museum, the typical and picturesque fish market of Via Trento and the "Castello Maniace", a fortress located at the end of the island, are within walking distance.
The apartment offers access to a large living room kitchen complete with accessories and a comfortable sofa bed, from the living room you will have access to the sleeping area where you will find a comfortable double bed with bedside lamps and convenient electrical sockets near the bed. The bathroom is very bright and equipped with a very spacious shower, the house is equipped with all the necessary accessories for your best stay and LCD TV, free wifi, washing machine and large outdoor courtyard are just some of the many comforts of the flat. Externally you have a large inner courtyard complete with table and chairs to spend sunny days in total relaxation or to be able to dine by candlelight under the starry sky of Ortigia.
If you like sunbathing, just 700 meters away you will find the beautiful beach of Cala Rossa, or 650 meters separate you from a recently opened solarium, free, on the marvelous sea of Ortigia.
Food lovers will be spoiled for choice among the many restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream parlors and pastry shops that offer typical and gastronomic products of Sicilian cuisine.
The island of Ortigia is the beating heart of the whole city: just a square kilometer yet an enchanting treasure trove of treasures and natural beauties ready to amaze you. Temples, castles, ancient aristocratic residences and baroque churches determine the charm of the small island dedicated to Artemis. It is pleasant to get lost in its narrow streets, in search of rare atmospheres lost elsewhere and which here are perceived even more alive than ever.
Of Ortigia it really strikes its human dimension, its tranquility and in its small but intoxicating market the soul resides. Among fruit and vegetable stalls, cheese shops, typical products and fish stalls, all the colors, flavors and aromas of this enchanting land gather in perfect harmony, to be enjoyed in the evening in the typical local trattorias or in its refined restaurants.
From the Aretusa terrace, above all at sunset, the whole city is dominated: from the ruins of the Greek fortress of Eurialo, to Etna, dwelling on the elegant Frederick's fortress of Castello Maniace, the southernmost tip of Ortigia which seems to caress the blue waves of sea.
The undergrounds of Ortigia unfold telling the secrets of its people and jealously guarding other treasures: the "Jewish Bath" in the heart of medieval Giudecca, and the Hypogeum of Piazza Duomo, theater of the local chronicles of the Second World War.
The view is also lost in the undulating Plemmirio, today a protected marine area, an ideal destination for nature excursions by sea and by land, and which is located close to the seaside areas of Syracuse, Arenella, Fontane Bianche, Ognina and Terrauzza.
A few kilometers from the city another magical place: the "Fonte Ciane", testimony of the love between the beautiful nymph and Anapo.
Here we recommend the return of the river by boat, among unique specimens of Papyrus to the source.
Del Papiro in Syracuse still preserves its memory, not only in its small museum but above all in quality craftsmanship which, faithfully following the recipe of the ancient Egyptians, reproduces the beauties of the Aretusian city in watercolors on original papyrus paper.
Syracuse is all this and so much more: a continuous discovery among warm and welcoming people.
Raffaele is a five star host. The location is great , around the corner to the market. The bathroom is very dated/old and needs to be refreshed. The water stopped working while we were there and it was explained that there was nothing he could do because it was the area. Luckily the area got more water and it came back on. The courtyard to sit at is a small area.
The apartment was clean, nice updated kitchen and bathroom and in a nice neighborhood. Plenty of hot water for showers if you figure out the shower handle. Instructions were emailed to us the day before arrival and we accomplished self check in without problem Communication with host by Whatsup app, but not a very prompt reply if you have questions.Biggest shortcoming was the drainage from the waterheater in the bathroom with a tiny container about 6' up on the wall that needed to be emptied several times per day or you would have a big puddle on the bathroom floor. The bedsheets were less than desirable and the comforter was so heavy and strong smelling (like new synthetic material) that I had to take it off and bag it because it gave me headaches. AND don't get me started on the bed pillows, yuck, old and icky! There is a capsule coffee machine, but good luck finding the right size capsule! The host left some but they did not fit and we weren't up to buying some and guessing what would fit!Sorry, we stay in many VRBO's but this one was just missing some creature comforts that are important to us while traveling.
Easy to find. Great location. Had a few issues that were quickly resolved by very responsive host. Bed was comfortable and unit was quiet. Could use a booklet in the unit with all the particulars about the unit. For example; the WiFi code, need to turn gas on under sink before youâre able to use cooktop, dumping water heater reservoir.
We were in the apartment for two weeks and loved it. The remodeling of our unit was obviously done with taste and attention to detail. The location could not have been better unless you require a view but we were perfectly happy with âour little courtyardâ and the proximity to everything. The only wrinkle was water pressure . It was a little weird but in now way diminished our enjoyment of our stay. We realized we were in a very old building in a very old town. Itâs all part of the experience and we wouldnât hesitate to stay there again. Our host Angela was very helpful and responded right away to any questions or concerns.
The apartment was clean, and well equipped with all you need on your holiday, including kitchenware. The hosts were very responsive and we had no problems during our stay. The apartment is a bit challenging to find at first, but once you get acquainted with the area you'll have no problems with the location.
Fantastic communication and advice was provided by Angela the property manager, so helpful! The property is so easy to get to. It is just over the bridge and 2nd street to the right. Highly recommended for 2 people. It is cramped for more than 2 but doable at a pinch. The accomodation is very safe and secure! It is very near to the market and cafe's. All of the island is very accessible from here. Highly recommend the 2hour boat trip to the caves and a swim in the Mediterranean. The other tours are not worth it in our opinion. The Domo, Domo Piazza, Castle, Greek and Jewish districts are very much worth visiting. Ortigia was one of the Sicily highlights for sure.
Make sure to GPS exact address as this apt is in a courtyard. Itâs super private, quiet and a short distance to everywhere you want to be. Unit is fully stocked and communication for check-in and out was seamless
Our location made it easy to walk to all the major landmarks in Ortigia and was close to many restaurants and local markets. We were very pleased with Angela, our host, who provided us with a well stocked kitchen and checked on us to make sure we had needed supplies.
We had a wonderful time. The welcome pack was much appreciated. The location was great, and apart from me locking us out, the stay was excellent. Thank you both.
