Very good

Beautiful place. Loved how old and well maintained it was. Rooms were very spacious and decorated well. They were not serving dinner that night but recommended the train station close by and it was excellent. However, we did eat breakfast there the next morning and it was very good! I would love a longer stay here as we only were able to stay one night.

Lovely old place to stay
Lovely place but a bit tired in places. Room was warm and dry and it's handy for the NC500 route and the distillery, supermarkets available here too.

This would actually be a review of the Morangie Hotel in Tain. We were informed just a few weeks before our trip that they have repairs that needed to be done in the Mansfield hotel and that they transferred us to another hotel without an offer of a refund. The Morangie Hotel was a nice looking manor and had lovely stag head and Jacobite sword memerobilia. However shrouded in tacky halloween decorations and buckets laid about to catch leaks around the hotel. It wasn’t the stay we were expecting.
Despite being asked for a refund, they still transferred us to the "Morangie Hotel Tain" which is nothing more than an old house. That "hotel" had such a strong smell of carpet clue or some other cleaning chemicals that it triggered an asthma attack and we needed to leave urgently. We were unable to stay at that hotel and had to travel all the way to Dornoch at 11:00pm in order to stay at another hotel so we had to pay for another hotel. We need a refund for our stay and until we receive one, this review will remain here and other sites. I wish the castle had handled the situation better, but they did not.

Lovely hotel and staff
Lovely big hotel , staff were amazing , food amazing . Had a very creaky bed every time i moved in it the noise was crazy 😄 . Could dowith a little up dating , lamps and fridges , but none the less it was an old hotel , so authentic . A little expensive for what we got to be honest , but would i go back , most definitely 😊.
The hotel was very run down. Toilet bowl was loose, bedside light and shaving mirror light not working. Breakfast was excellent. Very poor service, no staff. No evening meal available. Dreadful hotel.
Very nice hotel in a quiet location with car parking outside in the grounds. Clean and good sized room with a large en-site. Breakfast was good. I would definitely stay here again.

Pleasant
A little dated maybe but staff were very pleasant and accommodating and room was comfortable.
Room was excellant with huge jet bath and huge bed. Loved the 'original castle' feel of the place with its tartan carpets and wooden features - very quiet and good food if a little expensive for what it was.
Had a very good trip and the hotel was very friendly and welcoming. Finding the rooom was a challenge intially but was very comfortable and quiet. The food was excellent and the bar staff very entertaining. Would recomend it as a good base for the area and look forward to returniung later in the year
Clean and friendly customer service. Unfortunately, the place was not as expected and for us, it felt incredibly dated and old fashioned, and whilst we understand the looks that is trying to be achieved, it just came across as tired and dated.
The customer service was great and the staff were very friendly but just not the type of place we were expecting.
The bed, equally, was very uncomfortable and we ended up booking another place for the night.
Very nice setting and the staff were very efficient and friendly. The room was a bit on the tired side but clean. The food was good with a good choice.
We had dinner while staying at Mansfield Castle Hotel.
Very attentive staff both in the bar and in the ‘crab shack’ dining area. The food was excellent and the wine list sufficient with sensible pricing.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.
