Great stay

Really lovely b&b, less than 10 minutes walk to the seafront. Room was really comfy and quiet. Hotel owner was really helpful and friendly 😊

Two big thumbs up

Two big thumbs up, both for The Westgate and for Torquay. The hotel was perfect for our visit, well located next to Torre Abbey and the beach front. Clean and well presented, the staff are friendly and have great local knowledge, ask them anything - they will have the answer! Highly recommend staying here, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We felt very welcome, we will be back.

Proprietor and son ill

My room was nice and good value. The proprietor was very nice, but both she and her son were ill : she had a raspy voice, and they both seemed to have fever. I should have left straight away, but I wasn't aware that Torbay is a hot-spot for the coronavirus. My main complaint is that I was more exposed than necessary to whatever they had. I felt cold and asked for a heater. I expected him to give me a little fan heater to take into my room. Instead, he produced a big radiator and, wearing pyjama bottoms, came into my tiny room with me to plug it in. (I should have asked him not to go in.) Less seriously, I had made a booking which included breakfast, but in the morning, I was told it didn't include breakfast. I showed her my booking which stated "free breakfast", but said it didn't matter. She insisted that I should have breakfast, and got her son on the job. I only had a little variety pack box of cornflakes, but he was moaning during my whole breakfast about the booking company getting things wrong. I really didn't need their breakfast! I took my tea to my room to get away from his moaning. It seems they obtained proprietorship of the guest fairly recently. I became ill with a sore throat and high temperature a couple of days later - which at this time, is more than just a minor inconvenience, and they should not be operating their guest house while ill. Also, the bedlinen didn't smell entirely fresh.

Hi Marilyn Thank you for taking time to leave this feedback. We are sorry to read that there were a number of concerns you had during your stay with us. It’s a shame it wasn’t mentioned at the time of your stay as we could have put your mind at ease regarding our health, we both don’t have fever and/or shortness of breath as you alluded to the Covid19 virus. Torbay is no different to other areas affected within the UK, and we are following the Government guidelines and have introduced extra cleaning schedules, deep cleaning rooms and communal areas within the B&B. Regarding the radiator, this is an oil based radiator which in turn will give off more heat more efficiently which is more eco friendly than an electric heater. Very rarely do we have occasions of complications with bookings. We try and accommodate all our guests to ensure they have a pleasant stay. We are sorry to hear you are unwell, it’s obviously a concerning time for all. We wish you a speedy recovery and just to confirm again that we are not showing any symptoms relating to the Corona Virus. I would be happy to discuss this further with you over the phone as I believe we thrive on customer service and we are deeply saddened to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us.
