Cultural Tourism in Ubrique
The mountain town of Ubrique is nestled at the end of the Penibética mountain range in southern Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, and more specifically in the northwest of the province of Cádiz.
Its municipal boundaries set it apart from other towns in the Sierra de Cádiz, as it lies between two natural parks: the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and the Alcornocales Natural Park.
It is a town known worldwide for its leather industry. Leather goods are the economic backbone of the town, and in recent years, tourism has also played a significant role. We cannot overlook the fame brought to us by our bullfighter Jesulin de Ubrique, who has been one of the key figures in making the town known throughout Spain and abroad.
You can stroll through its historic district, designated a Site of Cultural Interest, and a visit to the Ubrique Leather Museum—located in the former Capuchin convent (17th century)—is a must.
Very close to this building is the Church of San Juan, where you can explore the history of Ubrique.
In addition to other cultural attractions such as the Calvario Chapel, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la O, the Church of San Antonio, and the Church of Jesús, you can also stroll along the scenic overlook route.
