First, the good. The place is nice enough once you’re inside. Peaceful location. We didn’t have time to use the kayaks or canoes, but they’re in good shape. The drop in for them is a bit hard to find, and you gotta walk through poison ivy to get to it. Most of the banks are deeply eroded which makes getting in or out of the creek challenging. Having only one bathroom for up to six people can be a challenge, but we knew that going in. The bad: When we arrived, the place smelled very musty. The AC units hadn’t been run in a while, so after a day or so they stopped smelling. No screens on the windows to let in fresh air. We left the garage door open below for a day and that helped rid some stink. Things that should be done before guests arrive. The water situation is possibly dangerous. They provide bottled water, but when you run out, you need to go buy more. The water out of the tap is horrible. It’s well water, which can sometimes smell, but this was more than that. It smelled like sewer. I had to throw my toothbrush head away because the smell wouldn’t come out. And we all got a bit of a stomach bug while there. We think it was just from using the water to shower and brush our teeth. You smell worse after your shower. The big challenge here are the stairs. They warn that they’re steep, but there’s no back to them, they’re insanely steep and they have inadequate railings. NOT for older folks! Maintenance guy was great when he came for an issue.
