Very comfortable and clean apartment in a great location. Bed is firm, balcony has a nice view of downtown, kitchen is small but well appointed and I used it most days. Lao people are incredibly friendly and I felt welcomed everywhere I went. There is a nice grocery right across the street, the mall next to it, and within walking distance to the night market and street market. The host was super responsive. If you like hot water showers, I highly recommend. The pool is wonderful and the building is very secure with lobby staff 24 hours a day. Big 5 stars!

Great place, great staff, great stay. The place has profile to the locals so be aware of that should the subject come up when out and about for negotiation purposes. Another review said its showing some minor signs of age which is true but I found my room in great condition. They're always doing maintenance and run a tight ship from what I can tell. I stayed for five nights and overall have a good experience at Somerset. The hotel was well known so it was easy to point to taxi drivers who have minimal English. The hotel was situated on main road so it was easy to go around by food or by local Loca taxies. Little downside was the building has shown some age, so toilet problem (although this was fixed real quick), the bedding sheets were bit dusty so I asked for replacement, and dusty sofa (I have a bit of dust allergy) and curtains. But after a more thorough cleaning the room was quite comfortable from the second night. So, recommended with notes.
