Magnificent country house with Pool. Great views and location!

CASA ALTAVISTA is located next to the attractive village of Alora in its own grounds of 5 hectares and fully fenced. Surrounded by an Arab garden with lemon and orange trees, olive groves and fruit trees like figs, avocados, almonds and medlars. The 100 years old country house is decorated in Andalusian style and has been restored whilst preserving its original features. Two bedrooms, living room with fireplace and stove, dining kitchen, yard 'patio', bathroom with shower, pool, terrace and parking space. With its capacity for 4 people (max 5) is ideal for couples and families with children. Breathteaking views of the Guadalhorce river valley.

Cleaning with ozone treatment complementary to traditional cleaning, to guarantee total hygiene

The village of Álora has about 13.500 inhabitants and is situated on a hill dominated by the Arab Castle which is still now well maintained and lit. In 1484 the Catholic Monarchs Isabella II and Charles V reconquered de town. By the way, the spanish novelist Cervantes worked here from 1587 to 1593 as a tax collector.

The location of Casa Altavista offers a 5 minute walk to the village. In Álora you will find everything necessary during your stay: supermarkets, fish and fruit market, pharmacy, bakery, banks, etc. and a variety of restaurants to enjoy the traditional cuisine and Andalusian 'tapas'. Álora is also well known for its beautiful Easter processions.

The most impressive around Álora is undoubtedly the rock formation called 'El Chorro' (nature reserve). This rugged cliffs area belongs to the municipality of Álora. On the cliffs over 100 metres above the Guadalhorce river gorge runs a walkway known as 'Caminito del Rey' which is currently being restored. With well over 1.000 climbing routes is 'El Chorro' one of the greatest climbing areas in Europe. The reservoirs in 'El Chorro' are three stunningly beautiful turquoise coloured lakes bordered by pine forests. A quiet place for a picnic, swimming, fishing or rent pedal boats and kayaks. The area is also frequented by hikers and mountain bike lovers.

Beautiful peaceful casa
The house and surrounding citrus and olive groves are just beautiful, and perfectly positioned on the hillside on the edge of Alora, having magnificent views and solitude, yet within walking distance of the town. We were there to be active, enjoying rock climbing and walking every day in the warm autumn/winter sunshine, and the house was just absolutely the perfect place to begin and end each day. The very friendly and affectionate cat was delightful company. Thank you Miguel, everything was wonderful.

3 Weeks in January
We drove down to Alora from the UK, stopping overnight in France and Madrid. Miguel, the owner, met us at Casa Alta Vista and in his excellent spoken English, provided us with a wealth of information about the house, it’s history, the town of Alora, some great routes for us to explore on our Ebikes and some must see places to visit by car. Casa Alta Vista is a traditional Spanish farmhouse, which has been tastefully restored and provided with all mod cons. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. With its elevated position, the views from the house of the town and surrounding countryside are amazing, as are the grounds, which contain orange, lemon, hybrid orange / lemon and olive trees. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but only a short walk from Alora, a charming town with its traditional buildings, a castle and lots of small shops. It was great to sit outside a bar in the town square, basking in the warm sunshine, with a cerveza and watching the world go by. Miguel is such a nice guy and very helpful. We enjoyed hearing about the work he has done at the property, the cultivation of his citrus trees and his plans for the future. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 weeks at Casa Alta Vista and are happy to recommend it!

A little piece of heaven
Miguel's villa is a little bit of heaven, which feels like you are tucked away from the world - despite only being a few minutes from Alora. Nestled in a beautiful lemon grove, you are a step away from several trail walks. It is an excellent property if you love going outdoors and enjoying the beautiful Andalusian countryside. Miguel is knowledgeable, friendly and cannot help enough. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks

Great stay
We had a wonderful 2 weeks at this property. Close to Álora town, only 10 minutes walk. I would recommend having a car because there is a lot to see nearby, such as Caminito del Ray and Ronda. Some things to have in mind: The location is relatively quiet but there are sheep bells, dogs barking and jets flying over (the approach to Malaga Airport is right above the house). The streets of Álora are steep. There are no good restaurants at Álora really. We found Maria's Bar to be great though. The the owner is at the property 1-3 times a week to attend to the plants. There is no bother really, but good to know that he is there sometimes. The owner is a really nice person and gives you all the info you need. We can totally recommend this property to others.

What a view!
We had a lovely relaxing stay at this tradition Spanish farmhouse. It ideally located as you can easily walk into Alora for the shops or a meal out. Equally you walk up the track to he house and feel like you are a million miles from anyone. My Son loved looking after the cats, making fresh orange juice, playing ping pong & watching the turtles. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Great place!
Everything has already be said about this property and we can only confirm all positive notes. Close to town but secluded. Nice house, wonderful land to walk under lemon and olive trees, turtle pond, plunge pool and cats. Extremely relaxing place with a very friendly owner. Highly recommended. The only annoyance is the airplane noise over your head on weekends and in the evening (summer) as the house is in line with the second Malaga airport landing stripe, which is used once the first runway is fully loaded. We counted as few as 5 and as many as 40 a day. Not a big deal for us, but be aware.

Lovely place to unwind
The property was exactly as described and very well equipped. Very comfortable and lovely to have a large area to walk around in amongst the lemon and olive trees. Three cats made the stay fun, 2 very friendly, one very shy. Miguel provided food and we happily fed them. Fun seeing the turtles who also enjoyed the cat food! Miguel provided lots of information on arrival and instructions to find the cottage were very helpful. Alora is a typical spanish town, lots of bars and some very good restaurants. Plenty of supermarkets and a large Mercadona so plenty of options for shopping if self catering. Lots of places to visit within easy driving distance, although progress is slow once off the main roads so allow plenty of time for journeys!! This property really is as wonderful as all the other reviews state and I highly recommend it if you want to visit this region of Spain.

A little piece of heaven
Casa Altavista is quite simply beautiful and I almost don't want to share it with anybody else! Communication with the owner Miguel before arrival was excellent and he gave very good directions which meant we found the house very easily. He was there to meet us and show us around the house and grounds and it was so interesting to hear about the orchards of lemon/orange/olive trees. We couldn't believe how lucky we were to have found this stunning place! The house has been restored beautifully and with great attention to detail, so many of the original features inside and out have been retained, it's very traditional, homely and I imagine very cosy in the winter. It stays very cool inside during the day if you do as Miguel advises and keep all doors and shutters closed, because of the thick walls - so it did not bother us at all that there was no air conditioning - even at night the bedrooms are kept cool by the ceiling fans. It was over 40 degrees every day and we did not miss the air con, so do not let that put you off. The grounds that the house is set in are just beautiful - and there is a lot of space! You can have a lovely long walk just around your own land! The pool is perfectly big enough to cool down in, only waist deep but in such a pretty little spot amongst the fruit trees, it is so peaceful. There are so many quirky features - the turtle pool is in another lovely spot and I loved going down to feed the turtles every evening and watching them all come rushing to the surface for dinner, very entertaining to watch. Even the three resident cats won our hearts, they live outside but having named them all (as we didn't know their real names!) and had many cuddles with two of them, we missed them terribly when we left! The village is a ten minute walk, very steeply downhill so be prepared to walk home at the end of the night! Very traditional village, lots of pretty winding streets and lots of tapas bars serving lovely food - it seems not all bars are open every evening, but this is not a 'tourist' spot, and there were always a few to choose from. The only sightseeing we did was to get the train to Malaga for the day, well worth the visit, easy journey from Alora station. Somebody put in an earlier review that this place is 'good for the soul' and that sums it up perfectly. Total rest, relaxation and peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. We loved every minute and will return -Thank you Miguel for sharing your house :)
