Apartment With Garden In The Hearth Of "Barga Vecchia"

Set among narrow, winding lanes within the medieval walls of "Barga Vecchia", but within 10 minutes' walk of the shops and facilities of the more modern centre, this 2-bedroom, first-floor apartment with garden makes an ideal romantic base from which to explore Barga and the surrounding area. Decorated and equipped to a very high standard, it enjoys fantastic views across terracotta rooftops, of the nearby "Duomo" and of the peaks of the Apuan Alps. There is a safe, peaceful garden with outdoor eating space. The large, open lounge / dining / hall area has connecting archways and has been sympathetically decorated in fresh Tuscan style. Both bedrooms (one double, one twin) are bright and airy and tastefully decorated, while the kitchen, with marble worktop and dishwasher, and the bathroom are both equipped to a very high standard. There is a double sofa bed in the lounge.

The good. Fabio and his wife Paola are kind and pleasant owners. They met us to guide us to the property because you can’t drive to it and you will never find it without help. The reality. The apartment is beautiful but the heating system is inadequate. Fabio the owner wanted to charge me 30€ additional a night for heating that did not work. I said this was unacceptable and he should include these hidden charges in the overall price. He did send technicians to work on the boiler/system but it still took 4 days for the temp to go from 10c (50f) to 20c which is 68f. I think I over payed for the apartment unfortunately, even if the heating had worked. There were multiple broken or missing items that should have been fixed prior to our arrival as well. To Fabio’s credit he did ask me to provide a list of items that needed repair after checkout. There are many choices in Barga. For a reduced price if the repairs are completed and not during winter. This property could be a consideration. Because of long walks with luggage and steep staircases this property should not be considered for older or unfit individuals. FYI
