Villa Cianca - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 10

Sitting on the outskirts of a small village in the northern Tuscan hills is Villa Cianca, a lovingly converted agricultural building turned holiday home. The spacious and well-appointed villa is just 11km from Lucca in a neighbourhood of various villages and hamlets scattered over the hillsides.

Villa Cianca is the ideal base for your Tuscan family break and sleeps up to ten guests across four bedrooms meaning everyone has space to relax. Carefully restored by its loving owners, the homely interiors offer Italian charm and comfort in rustic surroundings.

The house has lovely views of the Tuscan countryside; the feeling of nature envelopes the garden and the sloping grassy areas and mature trees feel like an extension of the campagna. While retaining a rustic feel, your holiday home has all the facilities you could need for a family break, including a private pool with sunbeds and a dining area under a pergola looking out over the glorious landscapes. There is also a wood-burning oven and barbecue in the garden, ideal for cooking sumptuous local produce for an alfresco meal together.

The surrounding villages and hamlets in the area provide all the necessary small shops and eateries you may need, and many of them have artisan markets and wonderful historical sites to visit, such as nearby Pieve di Compito, a charming medieval village where you can attend traditional cookery courses.  For those wishing for more hustle and bustle, the villa is also situated 11km from of the Renaissance walled-city of Lucca which is one of Tuscany’s must-see locations.  Lucca has wonderful museums, galleries and churches to visit as well as endless winding streets filled with shops and cafes. The city is best explored by foot and a guided tour is a great idea to get to know all of Lucca’s hidden secrets. After all the walking, find yourself a restaurant to unwind as the sun sets over the lively historic piazzas.

If you wish to see more of Tuscany during your trip, Villa Cianca is the perfect base whether you wish to head to the beautiful Pisa or to the beaches of Viareggio, both of which can be reached in under forty minutes. For a truly special day out, spend time in magnificent city of Florence, just over an hour away.

Location:

Villa Cianca is situated in a neighbourhood made up of numerous villages and hamlets dotted around the rolling countryside, just 11km from Lucca.

The semi-rural location means you will find olive groves and woodlands across the area, perfect to head out on a walk or enjoy a picnic under the shade of an old oak tree. The local town of Capannori is worthy of a visit with its busy centre with lots of old churches and traditional trattorias for a drink and a bite to eat.

When you are longing for the buzz of the city, Villa Cianca is well-located to reach both Lucca and Pisa. Lucca is a gorgeous place and the city walls alone are an attraction worth visiting! You can walk or cycle to walls and get amazing views of Lucca and the surrounding countryside. Inside the walls, there is much more to see and if you are a lover of old churches then you will be spoiled for choice as Lucca is known as the city of a hundred churches. Here you will also find fantastic roman ruins and the majestic Cathedral of San Martino sitting side by side with exclusive shops and trendy bars and restaurants. If you wish to visit Pisa you could drive or get a train from Lucca which offers amazing views of the famous Leaning Tower as you approach the city.

If you wish to visit a local attraction for the day, then 15km from the house there is an interesting place called Villa Marlia which is a 15th Century Renaissance villa surrounded by stunning gardens. The home was once owned by Napoleon’s sister, Elise, who became Princess of Lucca and renovated the villa to serve her needs as a ruler. The house and gardens are an enjoyable day out for all ages and the gardens are packed with fountains, a stunning lake, grottos and astonishing florals. The ring walk around the garden is said to take two hours, so with the house and the cafe you could spend a whole day enjoying Villa Marlia.

For those who love nothing more than relaxing on a beach on their summer holiday, the coast is a mere 35km away. Head to Viareggio for its sandy beach, summer watersports, charming promenade and great shops. Florence is also wonderful for a day trip, just over an hour by car or catch the train from Lucca.
