Our stay was primarily to ride the train that is located across the street. Our room had no window coverings, requested because we were located facing the parking area. This local is under some type of renovation
There were no amenities, one single chair, no mirrors, no hangers in closet, no hair dryer, no air only small ceiling fan, and unable to open windows for air. It was stuffy and hot. 2nd night there was a power outage at 6:30 PM. The bathroom was the saving grace for this room. Nice shower. Unable to recommend this hotel for a stay The gentleman did assist us by coming 2x times to help with a makeshift curtain with bending rods, as it fell because rod was bent.
This is a renewed historic hotel located near the Chama train ride. The effort put into renovation is very evident. It has an authentic old west charm without being too rustic. The room we had was nice and clean with modern amenities for the most part. There was no AC but at that altitude we were comfortable with the window open. A word of warning, Go for the larger rooms. We booked late because we had not planned to spend an extra night in Chama but the train ride is a day long adventure. As a result we took the available room #206. It is very small to the poin of being cramped. Overall though I would be happy to stay there again, jut not in #206.
Hoping this property does well, it’s got all the charm, and an easy walk to most things in town. One of the more interesting properties I’ve stayed at.
Old hotel being beautifully restored. Reminds me of the Wolf Creek Inn in Wolf Creek OR (where I lived as a kid). Wonderful people in the process of a continuing major renovation. Nicely appointed with 19th charm.
Iron Rail Inn was close to train station which was exceptionally convenient. Our staff was exceptional, and service was 5++. Although, the Iron Rail Inn was still under some construction due to renovations over the last year, the facility and rooms were very nice. The Showers were 5 star and the sinks were enamel with sewing machine bases and furnishings throughout were antique looking. The BEST happy HOUR in Chama....drinks were so reasonable and the specialty flavors: wow!
Loved LEA, the owner, staff and the construction team as well. All were just so pleasant and went the extra to insure our stay was memorable, including the extra Fourth of July Decor for our Chama Elks across the street put together by the construction crew. We will be back again next year for the final Ribbon Cutting and to check on updates with the Inn!
This is a historic property that is being lovingly renovated. We enjoy these types of hotels creaky floors and all. We met the owners and heard about plans. Quite a different experience than a big chain property. There’s a small bar in the lobby and they will have restaurant once the new kitchen is finished.
Room was good sized and. The bathroom had been redone. Bed was comfortable. If you’re in Chama for the train (isn’t everyone?), it’s right across the street.
Participated in the soft opening of the hotel (accidentally). Family owned. Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything is new apart from the antiques used to furnish the rooms (apparently collected over many years before they bought the hotel). Quaint and cozy remake of a prior hotel. Has a. bar (was a work in progress), porch on first (ground) floor and patio on the second floor (with fire pits and comfortable chairs). They will have a small store and small restaurant (which will be a good thing as there are very limited dining options on Mon-Wed in town). Look forward to going back some day and seeing the finished product. Clearly a labor of love and more like a B&B than a chain hotel.
From the get go,my reservation was a problem I was given the wrong room. The hotel is still in the renovation stage. The front desk person had to find me a room,I was given a two bed two bath room only one problem one bath had no toilet. The room was on the first floor and it didn't have curtains on the windows. The final kicker was there WI-FI was not working so the television didn't work. The whole stay there was a DISASTER. The bar will not be open until July 4th maybe.
