I stayed at Hotel Julien last year several times. All my stays were excellent and under $80 per night. This year, the price shot up and many issues: • Hot tub broken • Dusty hotel furnishings • Noisy ice machine which woke me up throughout the night • Switched Keurig coffee maker with second tier brand I felt like I was paying more and getting far less. Next time, I will probably stay at Holiday Inn or in the ironworks district at the new boutique hotel or Residence Inn

3 Perfect Days in Dubuque

Pros: The whirlpool is pretty & soothing."Caroline's" serves a tasty breakfast. The people at the front desk are friendly & helpful. The elevators are fast.
Cons: The parking lot got a little crowded when a fund raiser was held in the hotel. Extra parking for guests would be nice.
Location: The MS River Museum is about the whole river, not just Iowa. The Fenelon Elevator is a lot of fun.Try the panzerottis at Mario's. Hike Mines of Spain
It was my husband's birthday on Wednesday, so we began our stay at Hotel Julien in the middle of the week. Our room was on the 5th floor with a great view of the bridge over the Mississippi River. The luxuriously finished bathroom was a delightful surprise when we finally found it behind a pair of French doors with frosted glass panels. I am a history buff, so I was constantly checking the historic photos on the walls, reading the "Caroline's Restaurant" history in the menu and learning that Mrs. Julien Dubuque had the name that inspired the "Potosa Spa" in the hotel. Many good restaurants were within walking distance and we spent a lot of time at the Mississippi River Museum, which is also within view of the Hotel Julien. It is not hard to understand why Dubuque is number 4 of the top best river fronts to visit in the U.S.

Absolutely exceptional accommodations!

Pros: Room configuration and bathroom being offset via double doors from the sleeping area.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked the hotel, but the accommodations were five star--and I have stayed as some of the most prominent hotels in the world. Can't say enough about the size, comfort, and amenities in what was just booked as a standard double. If I ever get back to Dubuque, I will stay at this hotel, no question.

Loved our stay!

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, clean, spacious room, great rate
We booked this hotel based on an article in the Midwest Living Magazine as a destination hotel. We were not disappointed. This is a lovely restored historic hotel. All the modern conveniences and amenities – and then some! We had only planned to stay one night and move on, but enjoyed the room so much that we changed our plans and stayed another night! Some of the room amenities include a flat screen TV, sumptuous bedding, walk-in shower with a glass door and a separate work desk and chair and chair and ottoman. The room is very nicely decorated and was extremely comfortable. The pictures on the website accurately reflect the rooms. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the on-site restaurant has excellent food. The downtown location offers lots of options for shopping and restaurants just steps away. We would definitely stay here again if ever in the area. Thank you Hotel Julien!
