We arrived for check-in and were greeted by the manager. She showed us the details of the room like the airco/heater. Our room was clean, beautiful, charming, and filled with antiques. It was like staying at a wealthy uncle and aunt's house. I thought a lot about the history of the house and wondered who might have been to parties there a hundred years ago. The neighborhood was quiet, and pretty close to the Strand and the beach. We'd definitely stay there again.
Unique place. Rundown but they are trying to restore I think? Doorknob literally fell off when we turned it. Their dogs are running around inside so you have to be careful to not let them out. No shower or blow dryer in the room. Floors filthy and I got a burr in my foot trying to step into the bathtub to rinse my feet off! Lighting terrible unless you open curtains to look out on balcony that is falling apart. Buffet breakfast we were told to be there at 9:30 (several times) at 9:50 we were served a plate with a waffle, a couple of berries, and a sausage link. No buffet! Tea or coffee to drink. Not even regular water or ice. My partner ate both of our plates since I donât eat waffles or sausage or drink tea or coffee and the waffle was tiny. I would have been fine with water & toast but not available. For the price I could have stayed anywhere else and been far happier. The location was ok but still had to drive to the beach, shopping, cruise terminal, and it was not a safe neighborhood.
Beautiful spacious and inviting classic house! Our hostess was outstanding, very friendly and accommodating.
The room we stayed in was âThe Preacherâ and it was outstanding. Very large, comfortable with an incredible bed and a 7 foot claw foot soaking tub. Breakfast was delicious! Belgian waffles with fresh fruit, juice and coffee.
Very sweet. Great cinnamon rolls, historical. Joelyn is very accomodating and made us feel welcome. We loved the personal touch. The porch balcony overlooking the garden was a delghtful interlude from the stress of urban living.
This was a special occasion anniversary trip. While the house is lovely and the hostess is very personable, the Breakfast part of the Bed and Breakfast was very disappointing. The Hotels.com ad talks about the amazing breakfast but fails to mention it is only available Saturday and Sunday. What was provided to us Thursday morning rivals Super 8. We even had to bring bottles of water down from the room for the Keurig.
Had we known that there was no real breakfast, we would have booked somewhere else.
This was a great stay! Lovely property! The owner was extremely accommodating and beyond friendly! Beautiful room and house. And excellent breakfasts! Highly recommended!
Points forts : Service et personnel, confort de la chambre
The best thing about Carr Mansion is the hostess. She is charming and accommodating. The house needs a deep cleaning and painting in some places though. The carriage house and backyard are not appealing, so stick to the main house. The breakfast was simple but good.
Had a fantastic stay! Will definitely make this a regular visit. The breakfast was phenomenal and the conversation and comraderie we built with Joey was more than we could have imagined.
The Carr Mansion is a beautiful bed and breakfast but the security of the home is not the best. We walked right in mid afternoon (because of a baby shower event) and continued directly to the room without any assistance. We expected an adult-only, quiet, romantic vibe and walked into chaos. Despite that, the room was beautiful and I really enjoyed it.
The lady that runs the property is very sweet, but the property has SEVERELY declined from the website photos. Itâs a safe place to spend the night, but itâs days of CONDE NASTE and TEXAS MONTHLY features are long over.
I wanted to stay in this historic property because it was involved in the 1900 hurricane and the grade raising of Galveston Island following the terrible storm.
Check-in is at 3:00 and we arrived at 11:00 AM just hoping to go through the check-in process but we were able to pay for the room, drop our bags off and get the key so this saved us a lot of time. The host is great and provided an excellent breakfast and service!
