Low Jock Scar Country Estate, Beautiful Cottages in Lake District
''CHRISTMAS SPCIAL'' The Low Jock Scar Country Estate must be one of the areas best kept secrets. Just a few miles north of the historic market town of Kendal, where the unspoilt Fawcett Forest dips into the Bannisdale Valley, rests Low Jock Scar Country Estate, a large riverside Country Estate with private woodland tucked away beside the banks of the Bannisdale Beck. There are 4 cottages in traditional lake land stone, nestled between two Grade 2 listed pack horse bridges, with the highest seated on the route of Wainwrights Horseshoe walk, ideally situated to explore the Unesco World Heritage National Park. The beautiful secluded gardens and cosy cottages provide a tranquil respite. Tired feet will enjoy returning to this beautiful country retreat which has 2 Hot Tubs one by the river the other in the woods. Riverside Cottage has 4 bedrooms, 1 ground floor (3 king and 2 single beds) all ensuite Butterfly Cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1 ground floor + ensuite (2 king, 2 single beds) family bathroom Tulip Cottage has 1 bedroom with king bed, shower room (ground floor accommodation) Lily Cottage has 1 bedroom with king bed and ensuite (split level accommodation) Check in 4pm Check out 9:30 Please note we do not accept pets.
Hired the main house + three cottages for a group 40th birthday party in mid Aug-22. As long as you understand that your little away from the main Lake District location, then this place is perfect.
House / cottages were all kitted out with modern appliances, had a good number of ensuite bedrooms and were all spotlessly clean.
I was initially a little skeptical about hiring a number of separate cottages (rather than another location with one big house) but it actually worked much better. Additional spaces mean people felt more at ease, socializing with the group or enjoying some quiet time in their own cottages - which were all to an equally high standard.
We lucked out with the weather so spent most of the time outside and the grounds really make the place - so much so I'm not sure photos on this site do it justice.
Beautifully maintained, it has number of distinct places to sit around and feel a bit more in touch with nature. Many of the other reviews doubtless also mention the stream, a wonderful feature whether it's just a soothing sound in the background or (for the more adventurous) a place for a little paddle.
Morrisons / Sainsburys nearby in Kendal if you need supplies.
Host friendly and attentive, no issues either with the booking or anything during our stay.
Would absolutely go again and fully recommend staying here.
