Excellent location

We loved the view! Access between the unit and Wengen was easy via the free van service during their service hours. Outside of the service hours (after 20:00 and before 08:00) it can get pricey paying for a taxi. The walk is nice but there is no sidewalk so it can be dangerous. The loft is accessible by a steep ladder and the ceiling is not standing height. The beds were super comfortable. We had a wonderful stay! The area is just spectacular for hiking and exploring.

Perfect Place to Stay

We visited from the US and stayed in a few different places during our trip. Racer's Retreat in Wengen was by far our favorite. From the moment we walked in and saw our balcony overlooking the alps, we were in love. The service was amazing-Mandy was so helpful. We were able to get a ride with all of our luggage upon arrival and departure from the house, which was SO nice! Everytime we walked into town and then back home, it was relaxing and fun. We weren't sure what to expect on the walk but it is along a paved road and easy. We also got to see our little friends along the way (cows, goats, sheep, and some slugs). We loved Switzerland and hopefully we can visit again. We would only stay in Wengen at The Racer's Retreat instead of going to multiple places. Anywhere we would want to go is just a train ride away.

Wonderful stay, some miscommunication

We recently had a wonderful stay in the Chalet in Wengen. The location was magnificent with great views and peaceful location. The walk to Wengen village was very nice and easily travelled in 30 minutes. The village had everything you could ask for from shopping to restaurants to transportation options. The unit was very clean and had all the amenities described. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms roomy. Spent most mornings and evenings on the deck watching the sun hitting the mountain peaks and the Milky Way drifting overhead. The only hiccup was a miscommunication in the VRBO listing. It described parking as an amenity. We assumed we could drive our rental car to the unit. We entered the town of Lauterbrunnen late in the evening after a 12 hour drive to find that there are no roads to Wengen. It is car-free. We tried to contact the owner through the phone number provided by VRBO but had no luck. Finally reached the caretaker who told us we needed to park at the train station, take a train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, hire a taxi to go to our unit. At this point, we were exhausted and decided to get rooms at a hotel in Lauterbrunnen and start fresh in the morning. It all worked out well and in hindsight was quite easy. Further investigation finds that this same unit listed on AirB&B does mention the need to take a train for the final leg of the journey. By going through VRBO, this hit us as an unwelcome surprise as it was not mentioned and cost us some time and money. However, the quality of the rest of our visit quickly erased the bad start. We would come back to this unit in a heartbeat.

Dis

I will start off by stating that there were many things about the unit that we loved but the kitchen floor was sticky upon arrival and there was exactly one kitchen towel (we purchased a second one and I hope housekeeping left it in the unit for the next guests). One bed was missing linens and no extras anywhere to be found in the house. I understand that most of Europe does not use top sheets on their beds, but it was extremely hot, no air conditioning, only down comforters on the beds, and no fans. Goats (which were adorable) were grazing just out the back during our entire stay, so we had to choose between opening the windows with no screens and letting in lots of flies or a very hot and stuffy house with no fans or air conditioning. There were four of us, but only one set of keys were provided which was very inconvenient. One of the reasons we chose this particular was the promise of a washer and dryer. However, the dryer was not working and the owner made no effort to get in touch with the property manager when we were not able to. The owner was aware of the dryer situation before our arrival and did not mention it. Disclosing this information before our arrival would have been helpful. There were exactly 4 towels provided so it would have been nice if we had been able to wash and dry them during our stay. There were many things about the chalet that we loved, plenty of space for four, extremely convenient for day hikes out the door, waking up to a spectacular view every morning. However, I hope to stay a little closer to town the next time I visit Wengen. The 35 minute roundtrip walk to pick up eggs and bread started to get old after a week, even though it was a fantastic walk. If this is not an issue for you and you don't need a dryer or fans, this is a lovely spot.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat!

A beautiful chalet in the mountains with a spectacular view. The chalet is well kept and was very clean on arrival. Both Malcolm and Tracy were responsive to questions. It was a little hot at night in the chalet, a few fans would be a good addition.

Amazing views

The property is in great condition; everything seems new or well-maintained (the one exception was a broken dryer, but there are drying racks). Plenty of space for our family of 4; with the third full bathroom on the ground floor and the loft, it could have accommodated 2 more people very comfortably. The walk from the village (15 minutes with some hills) was enjoyable and lovely, only an issue when we arrived with our luggage. We had a little difficulty getting a cab on the rainy night when we arrived at 8:30 but eventually figured it out. We were able to grocery shop in the village (the Co-op store is on the way out of the town center) and cook many of our meals, avoiding the pricey but good restaurants. The walk was worth it for the amazing view from either of the two balconies, which I don't think you could easily replicate in town. Mountains (with Jungfrau visible around the corner, waterfalls, and distant Gimmelwald perched across the valley. It was like something out of Lord of the Rings. And Wengen was so convenient for hiking. Every day we would watch trainloads of passengers come through headed for Mannlichen or Jungfrau and we were glad we were most of the way there already. There are lots of hikes of all difficulty levels that can be done right from the doorstep, and the local tourism office is very helpful. I have digressed from the property but it was perfect, with a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of paper products, and very clean. We could hear the nearby waterfall at night from our window, and the kids could hear the sheep and their bells from right across the road. My husband, who never says this about anywhere we travel, said he would return in a hearbeat.

Lovely stay

The views are amazing, the walk is worth it (once got used to it) and the sounds of the stream mixed with the cow/goat bells was mesmerizing. The dryer did not work but that wasn't much more than a minor inconvenience. HIGHLY recommend not using the CO-OP - Dorfladen delivers and they are very friendly.

It was perfect for our family ski week

The chalet had enough room for all of us. We love the view, the sauna, the quiet. My family saw the Steinbock! We cooked nearly every night and shopped and carried the groceries from town. We rented from and kept our skis at Ski Set, which is just across the road from the Männlichen Gondola, which was essential for us. We enjoyed the walk to and from town, with it's uphills and trees - the ~ 20 minutes to town center woke up our muscles! Thanks, to the owner for being massively flexible when I inadvertently got our dates wrong!

Magnificent stay at Malcolm's chalet Mischkante.

Upon arrival the chalet was clean and well appointed. The view absolutely stunning. My wife and I brought our three daughters and son in law on this trip and everyone was wholly pleased. Without a doubt we would recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed.

Great location a short walk from Wengen. Nice views and very comfortable.

Stayed for 2 weeks - 2 adults + 4 children. The house was very clean, comfortable and warm. We bought all our food from the Co-Op by the station. We went hiking almost every day. There are clearly lots of places to hike in the area by taking trains / lifts to the start but don't overlook the hike from the house to Kleine Scheidegg which is very pleasant.

Stunning chalet

We had a magical three-night stay in Wengen. This chalet is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main town of Wengen and we treasured the charming daily walks. Such stunning views from the porch. The chalet had everything we needed. My only complaint is that today, upon arriving to our next destination, we discovered head lice in all family members. Given the timing, I think it’s highly probable we contracted it from the chalet. This is the only reason I rated the chalet 4 out of 5 starts. It was otherwise exceptional!

Quiet, serene, beautiful chalet

Love this chalet. We have been here 3 times already. Will return. Only concern is that the last few times, the floors have been a bit dirty. The first time we came, the chalet was spotless. The chalet needs new pans as the non stick lining is almost completely worn off, also new knives. But we love the washer and dryer, sauna, and quiet, serene, beautiful location.

Best views Ever!!!

OH MY GOSH!!!The view from Malcolm’s Chalet is BEAUTIFUL and the Chalet is beautiful. After a 15 minute walk from the train station, we arrived at this beautiful Chalet. Exploring the Chalet, the balcony has exceptional views of the Lauterbrunnen valley, I will cherish those views for a lifetime. There are 3 levels and plenty of room for all 7 of us. Having 3.5 baths was a plus. The kitchen had everything we needed. We were able to do a few loads of laundry(has a dryer to). A sauna awaits you after your long day of sight seeing. You can take a taxi to the Chalet from the Wengen train station, but the views were so beautiful, we walked. Malcolm replied quickly and answered all questions. We will definitely stay here again when we return. Malcolm is a great host. Thankyou, Tim

Nice mountain condo

This was our family's second visit to this house outside of Wengen. The house is tastefully decorated, the beds are comfortable and the views are amazing! It is a 15 minute walk from the town of Wengen on a paved road. The kitchen was well stocked - except for a coffee maker. Our family of 4 fit with lots of extra room - and plenty of bathrooms. The sauna and foosball table are nice additions.

A stay in Malcom’s chalet is a wonderful Wengen experience

We had a wonderful short holiday in Wengen, the little Swiss village above Lauderbrunnen, accessible only by a little cog train. It was terrific. The 15-20 minute walk from town to Malcom’s chalet was on a twisty road through what was truly a magical forest complete with waterfall, creek, a little snow covered bench and the most incredible views of the Jungfrau Region. We (my husband, daughter and her boyfriend) enjoyed this walk during the day and after dinner in town. The chalet itself was clean and minimal . The beds were very comfortable. We even indulged in a little foosball tournament. While this may not be a 5 star resort, it is a wonderful 5 star experience. We hope to return to Wengen someday.

Beautiful view, comfortable chalet

Very nice chalet just outside of town, close to skiing. Amazing view out back window. Loved the sauna. Cooked 3 meals a day and used the sauna daily. Comfy beds. Loved the shed for skis and sleds. Super quiet at night. Have already booked a return visit here this summer!

A beautiful place to enjoy Christmas

We recently enjoyed a wonderful stay at the chalet over Christmas. The space was perfect for three adults and two kids. We had a series of unexpected travel delays due to an airline strike and were very thankful for the taxi information. Most days we walked the 15-20 minutes into Wengen, but it was nice to have the option if we were tired from a long day. The chalet had everything we needed to prepare meals, and Wengen was the perfect spot to head out for day trips in the area. The views were breathtaking, the people we met were friendly, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this wonderful property!

Ideal location

We were there for 2 weeks with up to six adults staying at a time. There was plenty of room for everyone and the sauna was a great hit with my two oldest sons and a friend who were there to run the Jungfrau Marathon. The location is perfect, only a ten minute walk from the train station, close enough for quick and easy access to stores and restaurants but away from any noise. The view and sound of nearby waterfalls were a perfect setting for a return from a busy day of activities or just to relax and enjoy the beauty.
