About the name Giddy Betsy:Â Giddy Betsy is a mine that was told to have produced âmarvelous richesâ on the north slopes of Mount Elbert. According to an old prospector, Giddy Betsy worked the mine for many years until his health declined and he decided to return home. Upon his deathbed he gave his oldest son a simple map and dictated a letter detailing the route to the mine. After Giddy passed, his son was eager to find the mine. They searched many times and returned every summer for a number of years but never located it.

Staying in the mountains offers a unique and nature-immersed experience, characterized by a rustic charm. You might occasionally encounter some of the local wildlife, insects, and small critters that are part of the natural surroundings. We recommend keeping doors securely closed whenever possible. Rest assured, we've implemented thorough measures to ensure your stay remains undisturbed by these natural inhabitants.
Altitude sickness is real. In Leadville/ Twin Lakes, the elevation can be up to 10,000 feet. Symptoms can include dizziness and nausea, so please be mindful of this. We cannot offer refunds for guests experiencing altitude sickness. If you anticipate being affected, we recommend obtaining insurance at the time of booking.
The cabin was comfortable and close to town. I think the management should allow for a later check out time. 10:00 am is too early. You can't check in until 4:00 pm so a 10:00 am departure seems unreasonable. Yes, you can request a later check out but of course you are charged. I would rent the cabin again if I were attending the festival in Leadville.
Everything was great. Our only complaint is the king bed on the main level was very very uncomfortable which resulted in less sleep. Everything else was great.
