I just needed an overnight stop while taking in two days of cricket at Headingly. Comfortable, if rather warm in the room after a few days of sunshine. I could have asked reception for a fan but had already got into bed when I read that - should have read the folder earlier! Excellent breakfast - even the sausages, which I usually treat with suspicion in hotels. Lovely grounds, and they let me park on both days.
Absolutely wonderful stay, hotel set in its own beautifully maintained grounds. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the rooms basic but super clean. Breakfast was amazing. Very peaceful stay. A hidden gem!
Impressive building exterior, but interior was a bit drab, reminding me of a residential training centre I used to visit. Ecclesiastical elements and connection were a surprise. Breakfast was decent. Room and ensuite bathroom (shower) were fine, although wall-mounted TV was very small. My only real gripe was that with no kettle or supplies in rooms, tea/coffee etc. were only available from a downstairs lounge or first floor guest kitchenette, so my first drink of the day wasn't available to me until after I'd showered and dressed to then go down the hallway.

Lovely place. Nice and quiet, further away from the road than I thought. Free tea and coffee throughout the stay. Would come again.
Room clean, functional. Ensuite bathroom larger than in some properties, but tea/coffee making facilities in kitchen at end of corridor rather than in room.
Ample free parking.
Most other residents nuns or priests, but all very friendly. Breakfast room very sunny, no complaints about the buffet breakfast.
Nice gardens with plenty of birdsong.
Really nice place to stay, something unique and good value for money. Plenty tea and coffee available no matter the time of day. Breakfast was included and there was a lot to eat, from something simple like toast and cereal to the traditional English.
I arrived early evening, the woman on reception was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room was basic but comfortable. A previous review had complained about the room being too hot -that was not my experience. I did find the room very light, my window was close to outside lighting. Blackout blinds would have been great, short of that I would suggest taking an eye mask if you need a dark room to sleep well.
I agree with other reviews that breakfast is excellent-again with attentive staff keeping everywhere tidy and on top of everything.
It is a very atmospheric building and a short walk to Headingley and the pubs, cafes etc. When I stayed it was a student event -lots of fancy dress and large groups of merry young people on the high street. None of the noise and mayhem reached Hinsley Hall which is quiet and calm.
Fantastic value for money and it will be my first choice when I next need to visit that area.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
At no point on my expedia booking experience did it mention the hotel was also a catholic pastoral centre! Would that have put me off? Possibly. There were lots of pics of popes and cardinals which initially was puzzling. The room was basic but adequate. I recommend the hotel for it's convenience and great staff. I would stay again rather than a premier inn or travel lodge but next time ensure I didn't book a single bed. That was very retro! Great breakfast and the staff a credit to Hinsley Hall.
