Spy Run Hideaway is a 1/2 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway & pet friendly!
Spy Run Hideaway is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that is quiet and secluded on 17 acres that is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains full of wildlife. An experience here welcomes you to the serene mountains that include unlimited hiking trails, fishing at Montebello Pond, trout streams, vineyards that have wine tasting tours, and breath-taking rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Route 56 is well known by bicycle enthusiasts. Enjoy spectacular views and serenity from our large covered front porch where there is a gas grill and foosball table for family entertainment. The night sky is perfect for stargazing. Not to mention the peaceful evenings you could spend by the fire pit relaxing. 30 minutes from downtown Lexington or Staunton. Both offer an abundance of history, quaint locally owned shops, and fine dining restaurants. Lexington offers carriage rides through the historic town and is home of the Virginia Horse Center. You could enjoy free horse shows at the horse center.
This home is shared with a resident that lives in the lower portion of the house. We found out by accidentally trying to open a locked door and hearing the resident. The home is well maintained, clean, and beds very comfortable. Frank (host) was communicative and helpful. Overall stay was good but sharing a property wasn't expected and was a source of anxiety for our family as we have 5 kids and don't want to disturb others.
Very clean and well appointed with a LOT of extras that made our stay easy and enjoyable. Close to excellent hiking trails. It was a big plus that pets were welcomed as we brought our 2 beagles who had a great time too!
The property is beautiful. Those traveling along 81 and looking for a place to stay need to be aware, however, that they will be driving up a mountain, down a gravel road for more than a mile, and up a graded gravel driveway. We were in a 26' moving truck pulling a car and it would have been impossible to get this into this location even though the owner wrongly suggested that it wouldn't be a problem. He either has very bad judgement or isn't concerned about his guests (except for the concern that they pay him and don't cancel). I barely made it up the mountain with the load and got turned around safely thankfully.
This was the perfect get away for nothing but R & R! This home is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains secluded from the world. The only neighbors that you have is the deer family that graze in the field & on the crabapple tree, bunnies hopping across the yard, butterflies frolicking in the air & the hummingbirds stopping by to take a drink from their feeder on the front porch. They love to visit you while rocking away the time in the rocking chairs or swinging on the front porch swing. You can play a game or 2 of foosball on the porch as well. Bring your steaks, burgers & dogs to grill as the gas grill is ready to help you have a feast. Forgot seasonings? No worries there! This place is stocked with everything you can possibly need. Just bring your clothes, toothbrush & enjoy the comforts of home away from home. Three nice sized bedrooms & 2 full bathrooms. The beds were comfortable & the bathrooms are stocked with shampoos, body washes, toilet tissue & tissues. No skimping here - nice name brand with softness. The entire home is warm and welcoming. Slightly dated, but still comfortable and welcoming. I look forward to staying here again when our family goes back to the mountains. Biggest perkâŠ..Itâs about an hour away from the new Buc-eeâs!
This was a great house in the mountains. It was clean and had everything we needed. The front porch was amazing, allowing us to sit and watch nature, with our pup joining in on the family activity. Bring food and drinks and enjoy nature in this comfortable home. You could go out to eat, but you have to navigate the windy mountain roads, and everything is 20 plus minutes away. Try the CrabTree Falls hike, about 10 miles down the road, the views were spectacular. The owner was easy to communicate with and very helpful. We will stay again if in the area.
Very nice property, was i had the opportunity to spend more time there. The perfect place to just break away. The host were very accommodating, 5 star service!
Perfect one night stop for our family traveling to the east coast. Beautiful, clean and well maintained home in a beautiful mountain setting. Very secluded, but easy to get to. Also set up great for dogs. We're already talking about staying here again.
Just like home (except for the person in the basement)
Secluded and quiet. While it was only my wife and me the property would be heaven for a large family or group of friends. Not luxurious but very comfortable and homey. My wife described it as â like the home you grew-up inâ. Very dog-friendly. The only negative and this really disturbed my wife was that there was another person in the house. She was in the basement apartment and kept completely out-of-sight but she could be clearly heard coughing, moving around, and playing the television. If this is explained in the property description I apologize for mentioning it but I donât see any mention of this being a shared property.
We had a great time at Spy Run Hideaway! The kitchen was well equipped and we made good use of the gas grill on the porch. We spent most of our time in the huge covered deck or running in the front yard. Lots of great bird watching to be had. We had one night of bad storms and were excited to find there was a back up generator ready to go. We were prepared to âroughâ it until power restored but instead we just limited our use of power to necessary areas and had a great night of games listening to the storm roll through. Things worth noting: the road in can be a bit winding, itâs on a mountain after all. Do not recommend driving in or out at night unless youâre really comfortable with narrow mountain roads. Phone service can be spotty, but there is WiFi, we liked the forced disconnect. The fire pit is up on a hill so bring head lamps for traversing that slope after a night at the fire. Skyline drive is a stones throw away and we enjoyed the close proximity. Lastly, I forgot my travel kitchen kit and the hosts were great about getting it sent back to me. That was hugely appreciated. We hope to visit this home again in the future and are thankful the owners share their bit of heaven.
The house was clean and well stocked with anything you could need! Hidden off a dirt road, peaceful and quiet was just what we were looking for! We didnât have cell service, but we connected to the WiFi provided and could text etc. The beds are extremely comfortable! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!! We truly enjoyed our stay.
My Family and i had a short getaway to bring in the New Year away from the city. The home was perfect for our small bunch. Even our dog enjoyed his stay. He had a blast chasing the kids in the yard.
This was an ideal getaway for a Thanksgiving break. Our group included several teenage boys who enjoyed the house as much as the surrounding area. We had a dog as well who also enjoyed the hikes! We were able to explore the local area and enjoyed using the kitchen to cook. All in all, we had a great break - thank you!
This house and property are beautiful. It is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and is secluded and private. The owners have provided any and everything you will need, even wood to burn in the fire pit. The house was spotless, very dog friendly, and the owners are awesome and extremely easy to communicate with. There is a huge, beautiful front porch with rocking chairs and a grill. I had a wonderful time and I am looking forward to my next stay here.
Our family enjoyed the house and itâs secluded location! The property was well stocked. Our favorite part was the front porch⊠it had a beautiful view and it was SO relaxing. Frank was very quick to respond to any questions! We highly recommend this property.
