I have booked this hotel because it said that I would have a mini kitchen. Upon check-in, I did not find any, so I asked the receptionist and she said "oh but we are fully booked and I cannot change." It was a disappointment. The room was very small as well.

Beautiful Neuchatel

I came here for a conference. This hotel is wonderful. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to/from the train station. The service is great, and it is very clean. I did not have the breakfast, so I cannot comment on it. There is a small kitchenette in the room, and you can get equipment (pans, pots, utensils, plates, etc.) at the front desk. They are happy to provide what you need. There is a nice grocery next store. The hotel is very close to the lake and this pedestrian area of town - 5 minutes away.

Arrived at Midnight and no reception is there. No AC in hotek and no screen on windows. It was 90F. I ched out in the morning and paid one night penalty. Absolutely horrible.

We stayed in Hotel L'Ecluse overnight to catch an early train to Paris. Location was not ideal for that purpose (not within walking distance from train stainion with luggage) but other hotels were fully booked. Our room was small but comfortable. Hotel has no parking and no accessible entrance, we've got to carry heavy luggage upstair from street to the hotel enterance. It was noisy early in the morning and it was noisy till late night because of proximity of railroal tracks. Staff speaks English and was helpful during our stay: provided extra cups and tea pot to make tea in the room, arranged taxi. Bed and linen were very clean.

Clean, Simple, and Inexpensive

Hotel de l'Ecluse is quite nice when visiting Neuchatel for either business or pleasure. I travel to Neuchatel about twice a year for business and always stay there, although I would not hesitate to stay on vacation. The rooms are very simple and efficient. A characteristically European bed and bathroom await (not overly large, but not cramped). The free wifi is really nice in a continent where everything is quite expensive. The staff is very friendly and speak English, although a minimal amount of French goes a long way. The breakfast is pleasant and I usually get it. The city attractions are a very short walk and there are a few very nice restaurants very close by. The area is not dodgy at all, just use common sense and you will be fine. The bus line is quite handy and the Ecluse stop is 1/2 block away. Do not let the proximity of the train tracks on a satellite view scare you, they are about 60 feet up in elevations and Swiss trains are ultra-quiet. I had a room facing the tracks and had to *try* to detect when a train would pass.
