Rooms are outdated

Pros: staff, bathroom
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
The rooms are sooo outdated. Hotel provides no cable and only a small box TV. WiFi needs to be paid for. The only decent thing about the room is the bathroom. Elevator rides are scary. It shakes as you go up or down.

Spooky place. It was practically deserted. Not a welcoming atmosphere

Nice and cozy!!

Pros: Location and charm
Cons: Customer service. Long wait to check in and check out
Location: Not too far from Grand Central and Times Square, 5th Avenue
Really a nice place to stay in midtown. Very cozy and comfortable. Could have expected a place for breakfast on premises. But the people were friendly and stay was comfortable.

Nice hotel

Nice hotel. Very clean. I was surprised how roomy it was too. I had heard most nyc hotels were tiny.

Good value for the money, but beware...

Pros: Close restaurants, great location
Cons: No free Internet, bed bugs
Two words: BED BUGS! We checked in to our room and it was on the smallish side, but fine. Definitely an older room, but by all cursory accounts it seemed clean. I even pulled back the comforter to check the (white) sheets for any bugs, as NYC is notorious for them. I didn't see anything. Fast forward to later that night, after dinner. I was sitting on the bed (on top of the comforter) with the pillows exposed. After about 10 minutes I looked over and saw a bug. When I looked back on to the white pillowcase, they were EVERYWHERE. I think they crawled out of the headboard and/or mattress because they smelled me sitting there. Needless to say, I freaked out. Marched right down to the front desk (oh yeah, the phone in the room wasn't working) and as soon as I said the words "bugs in the bed," they apologized and immediately upgraded our room, saying the new room was one of the best in the hotel. We went straight away to the new room, which was on an upper floor and semi-renovated. It was much more spacious, with newer furniture and quite a nice, new bathroom. The comforter and all the sheets in the new room were white (as you can be sure we checked EVERYTHING for bugs), but the carpet was really nasty. As in, don't want to walk on the stains in your bare feet nasty. Best room in the hotel? I certainly hope not. But it was 11 pm and the room was bug free, so we decided to ride it out. We never heard again from the front desk to check in with us and see how everything was. Surprising, since one whisper of bed bugs can really damage a hotel's rep. Bottom line, they handled it OK, we were immediately changed to a bug-free room, but I would NOT stay there again and would NEVER recommend it!

Well located in NYC and a good value for the money

Pros: Close restaurants
While my inside room had absolutely NO view (airshaft), there was no city noise. Unfortunately, it was also right next to the elevators so you heard ever time that the doors opened and closed plus the conversations of people waiting in the hall. The room was small but well appointed - a bit threadbare, but clean. Nice bathroom.

good location, good value

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: Noisy
Great location, good value for the room. Paid $50 for an upgrade - for two single beds - that I understood to be an option without added cost from the room description. It was worth it, as I was traveling with my sister. The location is superb though for any Manhattan trip, so you can't beat the value of the room. Maids were entirely too loud in the morning to allow for sleeping in, and the front desk staff was not overly friendly. We waited until well past 3 p.m. to check in, after arriving at 2 p.m. Others were waiting too, so it wasn't just us. Baggage check was convenient. Rooms are small and walls thin, but overall room was clean and like I said, you just can't beat the location. Close to Times Square, Grand Central, and fabulous shopping. Will definitely be staying here again. The decor was nice and I loved the bar.
