Nasty unsafe dangerous. Cigarette bin held together with tape at main door was the first warning. No answer after ringing the door bell was number 2. That's when we should have gone home. After finally getting an answer on the given mobile number, we were guided through a very smelly damp bare empty unused bar area, then through a dining area which had dirty unused fridges in which stank. Then guided into a room smaller than what we booked. Apparently the room was too big for our needs so they gave us a smaller one even though I paid for the larger room. This was eventually sorted. The rooms have no windows or air. There is a sheet of glass but this only looks onto a corridor with very questionable stains on the carpet (also the blood stains on the uncovered pillow will get the imagination ticking). Wafer thin curtains let the corridor light in. No night time safety lights or lit up exit signs. 1 door in and out of building. Door to our room did not lock so my daughter felt very unsafe due to the guests next door talking and shouting until 3.30am. At this time I rang the "manager" and he was asleep! Took 3 attempts to wake him with one attempt being sent to voicemail. This place is just awful in every sense and has an awful atmosphere, it fails on so many health and safety standards and laws, I don't know how this place is open. My partner and daughter did not feel safe here at all. We left for home at 4am. Truly a bates hotel vibe going on here. Good luck if choose to stay
Very comfortable beds and had a great night sleep hence the 3 stars. The hotel needs alot of work and has so much potential once this is done. Unfortunately we had no hot water in either rooms so couldn't shower. Family room wasn't available even though that's what we booked so got given 2 separate rooms which could be a problem for families with young children. Children's room had a smashed window. It room had a window handle broken so window would not shut properly. There is no bar or restaurant working which is a shame as we would of spent money using this and the nearest shops were quite a distance.
This review considers the amazingly low price we paid (ÂŁ40), compared to other availability in the area.
We requested (and booked) a family room, on arrival, we were given two double rooms opposite each other. Not a problem for our 1 night stay, but it could have been.
The rooms were warm and clean, and had been newly decorated, the bedding was clean and crisp.
The breakfast was adequate, all self serve, tea, coffee, juices, cereals, packet meats and pastries.
The downsides - we had to call a mobile number (taped to the door) on arrival for the door to be opened by, I'm assuming to be a live-in caretaker, he showed us to the breakfast area and to our rooms, but we never saw him (or any other staff) again.
The general decor of the communal areas is (I hope), a work in progress. The double glazed window in one room had one layer cracked and displaced its whole length.
Would we stay again? Yes, at the low price and for 1 night.
