*This is not a full-time vacation rental property, we as a family often spend our weekends/vacation time up at the cabin when guests are not booked*
**While we unfortunately do not allow our guests to bring their pets, we have family dogs that sometimes stay at the cabin with us. There is a cleaning service that comes between stays, but those with severe dog allergies may prefer to stay elsewhere**
THE CABIN ITSELF
Our cabin has an open concept kitchen/living room area. The kitchen area has a 4 burner stove, oven, microwave, toaster, drip coffee machine and a beautiful wooden trestle table. The living room area has a television (equipped with Roku), a secretary style desk, and comfortable seating (armchair, Adirondack style futon, rocking chair with foot rest). The highlight of the common area are two large windows that look out to a mountain view.
One bedroom has a full mattress and the other bedroom a bunk bed (top mattress is twin size, bottom mattress is full size). Additionally, the futon in the common area folds out into a full size mattress. Therefore, the cabin can physically sleep up to 6 adults (however the space is probably most comfortable for up to 4 guests).
Outside we have a large front deck with plenty of seating. On the deck we have a BBQ grill, a griddle, and a firepit table. Propane is provided for each.
In the backyard we have a traditional campfire pit with seating (wood not provided).
For those visiting us in the winter months, we have a carport to keep your vehicle snow free!
***The basement of the cabin is not a fully finished basement, please be mindful of this when staying at the cabin and going downstairs if choosing to use our washer and dryer for laundry***
IMMEDIATELY NEARBY OUTDOOR ACTIVITES
Ski/Snowboarding: We are about a 15 minute drive to the entrance of Gore Mountain Ski & Recreation Area
Canoe/Kayaking: At the end of our road we have a public canoe launch into Minerva stream (10 minute walk, < 1 minute drive). We've also caught brook trout in the stream.
Hiking: We also have a NYS trailhead on our street (~5 minute walk) where you can do a day hike up to Sherman Pond (2.5 miles) or Stony Pond (4.0 miles).
Swimming & Other Outdoor Activities: During the summer months (mid-June to early September) Donnelly Beach is open at Minerva Lake (~5 minute drive) with an on-duty lifeguard and a snack stand that serves hot food (burgers & hot dogs). There are also basketball and tennis courts to enjoy, as well as a loop trail around the lake. During the winter months this area hosts an outdoor ice-skating rink and sled hill. You can also ice fish on the lake if you have your own equipment. This recreational area is operated by the Town of Minerva and open to the public for no charge.
CLOSEST COMMUNITIES:
Hamlet of Olmstedville (~5 minute drive): If you need to quickly resupply on any essentials there is Sullivan's General Store open everyday (7am-7pm).
Hamlet of North Creek (~15 minute drive): This is where Gore mountain is located. Your closest Tops Grocery store is here and a Walgreens pharmacy. We recommend Izzy's Market & Deli for bagels and sandwiches. There's also a Stewarts Shops located here, open from 5am-midnight, so if you need snacks for an early morning hike or are craving a late night treat this would be your best bet as other places will be closed.
Hamlet of Schroon Lake (~20 minute drive): The hamlet of Schroon Lake is the largest of the nearby communities. You can find another Tops grocery store here. . There's also a community run art deco movie theatre "The Strand at Schroon Lake" that is open seasonally (fun for a rainy evening activity). In town we recommend 9 Mile Coffee an awesome local coffee shop and the local Schroon Lake Department Store for gifts and Adirondack apparel. During the summer months you can rent a motorboat for the day at the Schroon Lake Marina or swim at the public beach.
