Your Superior Vacation Destination
Welcome to The Silver City Lighthouse! Located on the shores of Lake Superior and down the road from the Porcupine Mountains, we are a perfect home base for exploring the western park of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Beautiful views of Lake Superior from the kitchen and living room. Lots of room for family of 5 with teenagers to spread out. I had read reviews about lots of guests from the nearby motel walking the grounds and even being on the deck. We were there over the 4th of July weekend and didnât have any issues at all. I actually felt upon arrival that the light house was set back towards the lake and away from the motel more than I was expecting. Beds comfortable. Shower was great. Kitchen very adequate. Tv and WI-FI were great. Perfect location 5 minutes from Entrance to Porcupine mt. Would love to come again though I feel the price is rather steep. Get groceries before arriving. Canât even buy milk without driving to Ontonagon.
The house is very nice and clean. The large living room was set up really nice with plenty of places to sit for a large group. Check-in process was non-existent⊠no communication from management. By reading reviews, we figured out to go to the hotel next door and ask for keys. There is no grill and no fire pit on the property. Managed by the hotel next door, so they expected us to use the hotelâs grill, fire pit and the outdoor furniture. This was not convenient, since we paid for a private property, but had to share with hotel guests. The only outdoor furniture on the property is a picnic table in the backyard. Nice balcony to watch the sunset from, but no chairs. The upstairs bedroom window faces the hotelâs parking lot w/ bright lights, but no blackout curtains. They have a smoke & CO alarm. The kitchen was somewhat stocked. Plenty of cups, glasses and silverware, but not enough plates for even 6 people. Needed to go to the hotel to get more. No big knives. Had to get creative when cutting a watermelon w/a small knife. Few small pans & pots, & some cooking utensils, but no tongs. No grilling utensils. No extra paper towel. The bathrooms were stocked w/ toilet paper, soap & shampoo. Plenty of towels, although some blood stained. Could not get TV to work & clocks didn't work. Had to ask hotel for wifi info. Overall the house is nice & cozy, just missing a few finishing touches to make it a perfect vacation place.
Lighthouse was a great place. It was clean and in a great location in relation to snowmobile destinations. It does share a parking lot with the AmerInn hotel and parking wasn't ideal. Trucks and trailers were parked in front of the house and I had to park 2 trucks and trailers on the far end of the parking lot. Hopefully this can be addressed for the future. Also....I had emailed and tried calling the property contact on VRBO asking some simple questions for about a week and no correspondence. The only correspondence I received was an hour before checkin to tell me how to do so. Which I assumed would've been sooner. I was worried I didn't have place to stay all the way until check-in
If youâre interested in Lake Superior sunrises or sunsets this is the place for you! The views were unbelievable.
We stayed here as a family of 6 and everyone had a great time! We enjoyed swimming in the lake and throwing rocks in the river. The only downside is I believe the house is owned by the Americinn behind it. I didnât realize we would be on the hotel property so there were hotel guests walking right in front of our place (front yard) to go to the water and talk on the phone. Based off the listing I thought it would be more secluded.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone that is looking to visit the Porcupine Mountains /Lake of the Clouds. We had the best time!!
Great Location: We loved the house, we loved the location right on a point on Lake Superior. Beautiful sunsets!
Poor Location: Also next to a hotel. Hotel guest made them selves at home on the property; in the backyard, they used the picnic table, came up on the deck, one person even tried to come inside the house thought it was a museum. During our three days at the house had to deal with 20-30 people each day wandering onto the property. My wife and daughter were startled one morning when they went out on the deck to have a cup of coffee only to be greater by 4 strangers setting in the chairs on the deck! I would pick a more private location on our next trip and recommend the owner put up a private property sign.
