Casa delle Sirene - Two Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 4
Stylish beach-front villas don’t come much more stylish than this!
Casa delle Sirene is a little corner of paradise on the beach near Sicily's (and Italy's) southernmost point. The garden gate leads out over the dunes to a golden sandy beach, bordered by the low white cliffs of a promontory and the blue waters of the sea – a chromatic synthesis of the Mediterranean! Large shady terraces and attractive interiors make Casa delle Sirene a perfect beachfront holiday house for all seasons.
Inside: accommodation at Casa delle Sirene is all on one floor. On entering from the shady wrap-around terraces, one is immediately impressed by the airy, cool effect of the interior design: high, sloping, woven-bamboo ceilings are supported by white-painted steel joists and punctuated by light-giving skylights, white walls and light-coloured furnishings and fittings augment the feeling of airiness and calm.
The living and dining areas share one large open-plan space with the superbly fitted modern kitchen, which comes with dark granite work surfaces and a double-fronted fridge-freezer. This area, and indeed the rest of the accommodation, has a wonderfully cosy atmosphere in the autumn and winter, thanks to the presence of a fireplace and hot-and-cold air-conditioning throughout.
A corridor leads towards the rear of the house and the sleeping quarters, comprising one double-twin and one double bedroom, each with its own excellent quality en-suite shower room.
Outside: all four sides of Casa delle Sirene are given over to shady porticos hosting a variety of al fresco dining and lounging areas. Each is perfect for a different time of day, and there is even an outdoor kitchen, the perfect invitation to cook and dine under the stars!
To the front of the house, a large expanse of lawned garden, adorned with palms, olive trees and fragrant Mediterranean shrubs, leads towards the front seagate, which takes one directly out onto the lovely beach and the tempting waters beyond.
If you love the style of Casa delle Sirene, you'll probably also love its sister villa, Casa dei Gabbiani.
Please note that this villa does not have a pool.
Because of natural changes to the coastline from season to season, the sandy beach in front of this property may not look as it does in the photos.
A friendly cat, Filippo, may be seen in the villa grounds, where the housekeeping staff leave food and water for him. He will not enter the house unless encouraged to do so, and is also not encouraged to roam the grounds, however we cannot guarantee that he will stay away from outside furniture.
Casa delle Sirene is situated just a few miles from Capo Passero, whose lighthouse signals Italy’s most meridional point – considerably further south than Tunis/
The coast is almost entirely given over to long sandy beaches, the very same ones landed on by British and Canadian forces during Operation Huskey in the 2nd World War.
Just to the west is the port of Pozzallo from where, in just 90 minutes by hydrofoil, it is possible to get to Malta.
To the north is the splendid Baroque town of Noto, Syracuse, once the mightiest city in Magna Graecia and Vendicari Nature Reserve, home to beautiful unspoilt beaches, migrating flamingoes and nesting turtles. Less than an hour's drive to the west are the other splendid towns of the Val di Noto UNESCO Heritage Site, Modica and Scicli, and, a little further afield, Ragusa.
The beaches in the area of Pozzallo and Ispica (including the beach outside the house) have received several consecutive "Bandiere Blu", attesting to the cleanliness of the water and their general ecological excellence.
Arrival details will be confirmed by The Thinking Traveller after your villa is confirmed.
The Thinking Traveller can organise transfers and car hire and an agent will be in touch with you once your villa is confirmed.
