The best features include the deck and the hot tub. Located by some other homes but quiet and we were unbothered by the neighbors. Close to town and other activities
Absolutely loved the area! It is a beautiful tucked away location that is perfect for getting away but not too far from local restaurants or shops. About a 25-30 min drive from next big town, Lincoln City.
House is nice and tidy, super clean and cozy with a breathtaking view. The property owner is super nice and very helpful with giving insight on things to do in the area. Cannot forget his adorable dog that would come and hang out with us, a super sweet girl. Definitely recommend!
My friend and I rented this place for a weekend. It was perfect for us. The view is amazing and the hot tub is a definite plus although it's quite chlorinated; but that's typically what you get with rental hot tubs. We had a nice time sitting in the hot tub in the evenings. The house was actually quite warm which surprised us all, we only used a bit of wood. They had lots of blankets and towels available which was awesome. We had a great time and had everything we needed. Only complaint (which didn't affect our stay) is that the house really needs a new vacuum. We had pets and wanted to vacuum a bit before we left but it was nearly impossible because the vacuum is from like 1913. Overall, I'd book this again.
We stayed a few days at Heronâs Perch. It was a great spot to relax and chill. We enjoyed exploring the area and then hanging at the house in the evening soaking in the hot tub and staring at the amazing view. We wouldnât hesitate to come back.
The view from this place is stunning! Basic needs met, but renters should know that the kitchen appliances are from the 1950s (cool to see, but not super efficient), no HVAC so plan on bringing fans if itâs warm, and firewood if itâs cold. We didnât need either due to the time of year.
We were left only one piece of fire wood (although we didnât need it), and the batteries on the remote controls and kitchen clock were dead. Again, was not disruptive to our stay in particular, but the owners/prop management may want to check those things before each rental.
Overall this was a peaceful and lovely place to stay.
Spacious but dated furniture and fixtures. One thing is that while there is a back bedroom on the ground level, the main sleeping areas are up stairs and the only bathroom/ laundry room is downstairs. Lighting on stairs not so great at night so makes for a dicey midnight bathroom run. Interesting oven/stove unit: All analog with a tendermatic setting even. That being said, it does work though you have to cook with the doors open as there is no fan/vent. (Otherwise you set off fire detector!) Also needs a good cleaning for cobwebs on the high ceiling and the deck!!! But It is a very peaceful setting and gorgeous views!!! (It is at the top of a gravel/dirt road so good tires are a must.)
This cabin has the best deck view of any on the entire coast! Spectacular! And the hot tub on the deck? To die for! The sky full of stars - shooting stars! - while soaking in the perfectly maintained hot tub was just .... Iâve run out of superlatives! In the âto be aware ofâ category: the cabin is kinda âweather-vulnerableâ - ie, it really heated up in the late afternoon, and we needed a box fan to vent the loft of its trapped heat. Some kind of shade system for the deck - I get that umbrellas are not good because of winds - we were there during a heat advisory in late Aug; other times of year this is probably not an issue. We loved this place!
We enjoyed our stay . It was very quiet and peaceful. There were plenty of towels and other supplies, (soaps, paper towels, dishes, kitchen utensils, knives, bowls, pots and pans, toaster, microwave coffee pot, etc). There were also board games, playing cards, and puzzles. The t.v. had great color, there was also a c.d. player, binoculars and a telescope. We had a problem getting the hot-tub open and after we called the office we had a gentleman there to take care of it within 30 minutes. The picture that is on-line that is taken from the great deck is a bit misleading, we thought we were going to be close enough to walk to the beach.
The cabin is in a great quiet location with a fantastic view. It was clean. However, they did not disclose that the only source of heat is a wood stove which means you have to constantly haul wood in to keep the fire going. That was a minor inconvenience, but the biggest disappointment was the hot tub. It was not operational (cold and 1/3 full of water when we arrived) I consider it FALSE ADVERTISING to say there is a hot tub and then not have it in working order for guests. We called the office and they said they would try to have a tech look at it, but we never heard back. Super disappointing.
We really enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful, Loved the view! The house was comfortable and clean and provided us with all the comforts we were looking for. There were however a few issues...
The power on the mail wall of the house went out. The maintenance guy was quick to show up and help us out. Unfortunately it went out a second time and they weren't able to properly fix while we were there. They did supply us with extension cords and we got on with our relaxing!
The hot tub was large and appeared clean, but after first use it was foaming more than it should have been. I would definitely suggest individual packets of shock that we could drop in hot tub during our stay.(which we have seen at other homes)
The dryer wouldn't dry the towels in a timely manner(3 cycles to dry 4 towels!) and we girls hated the bathroom curtain. it is quite see through when the light is on.
The woodstove heated the house quite well, the upstairs does stay very toasty, and they do supply the wood. We did have to bring the wood in the house. Which would have been fine had my husband not twisted his ankle.
The beds were comfortable, plenty of blankets and pillows! The kitchen was VERY RETRO! we loved the old stove and they had all the basics for cooking. Bring your own spices!
Really enjoyed our time for a good price. Thank you
We really loved this place. Had some cons to it but overall a great getaway with our dog. Has lovely views of Nestucca Bay/estuary so you can see part of the ocean but mostly beautiful hills of the refuge. Sweet hot tub right on the deck facing the water. Space for maybe three couples (plus a kid or two) but just one bathroom. The rental was clean and very quiet, had strong wifi if you want it, and a great selection of 90s action movie VHSs otherwise. Pretty sweet vintage stove/oven as well which we figured out pretty quickly. Not walking distance to trails or beach or anything but a 5 minute or less drive to stores and to Bob Straub park to walk the beach. Also can go 3 mins the other way and clam Nestucca Bay at low tide!
Caveats: as the listing says there's only the wood stove for heat. This worked well at night when one enjoys having a fire (it heats the upstairs easily) but left the house pretty chilly during the March days, so bring a sweater and slippers. The kitchen has a ton of pots to cook with and the basic essentials, but doesn't have the huge amalgamation of gadgets, bowls, and non perishables like sugar, oil, spices some rentals have, so if you need it... bring it. The oven also isn't huge so maybe not ideal for holiday getaways requiring baking space. Lastly the rental is quite close to another house, though it doesn't feel like it impacts privacy once you're in the door. The neighbors have a very sweet, friendly dog that greeted us when we arrived and was curious to come say hello whenever we stepped outside. Normally this would be wonderful except our nervous rescue dog is terrified by off leash dogs and flipped about this pooch haunting our doorstep every time we went out (we nicknamed him "Ghost"), so word to the wise if you have dog-fearful people or pets.
Overall a lovely, fun getaway close to almost everything you need, plus a bonus neighbor dog looking to brighten your day.
