We wanted to enjoy our stay, but our time at this vacation house was cut short due to the lack of fundamental house maintenance, cleanliness and repair.
Our first impression from the outside was, oh how quaint and slightly odd; the entrance to the house was between two floors. When you enter, the stairs are right there—tricky when you’re bringing in bulky luggage.
Unfortunately, the cleaning crew didn’t do a great job before we arrived at the 4 PM check-in time. The owner was notified and another crew was sent over. In the mean time, we checked the air filter—it was completely caked with dust so we went ahead and replaced it with a new one they had in their hall closet, but there were things we couldn’t fix: the front door didn’t have a good seal or weather stripping, the beds were uncomfortable, and the biggest most disgusting issue were the active termites that kept flying around and finding their way onto everything including the beds. The cleaning ladies that showed up were kind but not very thorough. They asked what was needed of them so I showed them around. I pointed out huge piles of termites in the windowsills and on the floor, which they swept up.
Trying not to let the initial impression of the place get to us, we stepped out for a few hours, but when we came back, the termites were in full effect. Four of us stayed in the smallest room because it was the only one that was bug free, but it was a twin trundle so that was the worst sleep ever. Unfortunately we had
