In general the staff was friendly but poorly trained and had very limited communication skills. Suite was very modern but not practical. (Only mirrors in bathroom. Bathroom lights so poor hard to shave. Electricity failures common, water would cease running without warning. Particularly bothersome in the shower. Air conditioning so loud when on that it couldn't be used while sleeping. Beach had fancy beds rather than lounges, but no where near enough to handle the crowd. Guest joke, "ask questions of at least 3 people and ignore what the staff answers". Example. We were told by two staff members and in the written material the wrong location in the complex for a major "party". Food was adequate but restaurants had restrictions that were not announced or communicated to guests accept at the door.
i paid for this hotel a lot!!! of money thinking I will be going to a nice hotel which is clean and comfortable I got there and was extremely disappointed this was the worst room I ever stayed in. The service the hotel treats you with makes you feel like your in prison rather than a vacation and the pictures don't aren't at all what the hotel looks like. I came in my room the room was filthy looked like a hostel. I sat on the couch there was rips and holes inside the beds looked like they were from the 1920's. When I wanted to use the toilet I lifted the seat up to see a surprise use your imagination. I went to the front desk to complain they would make me wait and no one will help saying something of going to my member which I have no clue what that means. After the first day I picked up my bags and let not wanting to stress myself out anymore. Bottom line DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The rooms do not look anything like photos or descriptions. The room look like a 1970s flashback nothing modern like photos. I asked frontdesk of hotel and hotels.com about room did not have flat panel tv, no cd player, no stove, microwave like described on site about guestrooms. The hotel said it just an example of what you get not the actual room. I checked out and left to say the least.
We reserved the Royal Suites for our second day in teh Puerto Plata area. The first day we stayed at Casa Colonial and it was awsome! At Lifestyles from the begining even checking in was painful, there were a lot of people we had to wait to check in and then wait for the room to be ready. Once we got to the room we were very dissapointed it was not what is advertised in the pictures on the web site, in fact it was old, not kept up to date.
Another issue is trying to make reservations to have diner in one of the gourmet restaurants. this should not be a hassle but here it is. We had a VIP bracelet and we stayed for one night and because of this I have called well in advance to let them know I was concerned that we may not be able to get a reservation and was tyold they will accomodate, when I arrived it was very dissapointing and got no help what so ever; in fact the only restaurants they told us had opening were the mexican, dominican, chinese and the buffet restaurants. We chose the chinese restaurant and was a big mistake because the food was awful, we did not eat all our food and joinned other couples that lefty tgis restaurant and went to the buffet.
There seemes to be VIP areas that are nice and sounds like the villas and presidential suites may be in better shape. I may give this place another shot if I were to stay at one of these rooms and try one of the gourmet restaurants hoping we have a better experience next time
