The hotel was beautiful.

Hotel was beautiful and check-in was made a lot simplier than what I read on past reviews. It really didn't take very long. The room is very spacious and clean. My room had nice air conditioning however, my friend's room had the door that couldn't close all the way so it was hot and they were afraid mosquitos could come in. They switched rooms and then their AC couldn't work but then they finally had maintenance resolve the issue. Our last night we had a funny paint smell through the AC, they must've been painting something. The food was okay. The tacos at the snack bar was better than expected. The buffet was okay. Don quixote was the best speciality restaurant. The others were just okay. The mosquitos weren't that bad. My friends got bit more than me.

Hotel was average, staff was attentive but not over the top. We traveled with three families and everyone had vomiting and diahrea for at least 24 hours. The hotel really needs to focus on more sanitary food prep. I personally only drank bottled water - right out of the bottle - and still became ill so we can't blame the ice in the drinks. Most the food was served warm or cold, never hot as it should be. Extremely disappointed and would NEVER return. Two thumbs down experience!

Away from city

Pros: All inclusive--coco-loco drinks were the best! Fresh fruit at breakfast.
Cons: It would have been better with an orientation by staff.
Location: The zoo is very close as are the botanical gardens. Lots of excursion vendors right on beach. Beach massages were terrific.
First all inclusive stay was very pleasant. Didn't realize how far from center of PV it is--half hour by bus (easy to catch right outside resort--50 pesos.) Family friendly, no rowdy spring break atmosphere. Pools were nice, food was good, especially liked the Italian one. If you want to stay in one place and sit by pool, it's great. If you want more culture, I'd stay closer to city.

Nice hotel and picturesque

Pros: Food, rooms, atmosphere and surrounding of the mountains
Cons: replenish mini bar with more of a variety washcloth availability
Been to many all incluvsives in Mexico but first time here. Everything about the hotel was above average. The food was excellent considering buffet style. The 4 restaurants were very good. The Sushi Kyoto place was average. Drinks were mediocre but typical for all inclusive. The hotel is located in a cove and very picturesque. Beautiful!!! HOWEVER, I should have done my homework as far as the beach. If you are looking for a beach to walk, this is not the place. It's very minimal and small all the way around. Not much room even for laying out on the beach. Nueva Vallarta is definitely where you want to go if you want miles of wide beach. Also very deep drop off and strong currents. If you prefer a small-medium size resort this is very nice. If you want something with a huge footprint and 10 pools I would look elsewhere. My watch was stolen from the room. I went to concierge to ask if the maids had found it and they told me no. However, after I was offered to fill out a report with hotel security, they were able to track down the watch. I was in shock that it turned up.

First trip to Puerta Vallarta for my 85 yr mom

Location: Fishing! We love Adrian Pena. He was great with my elderly mom. I have fished with him for many years. Go down to the beach bars- look for Oscar
I have been to the Barcelo many times. The hotel is in a wonderful location on the beach. Rooms are very nice. This trip however ended with a horrible experience with the front desk staff at the end of the trip. There was a 45 min wait to get checked in- not enough staff working. In the past they had someone serving drinks- not this time. When we checked in we negotiated a rate for a grand master suite. Gustavo and Allejandro Helped us. I paid the rate in full after clarifying that this was the total rate, no other charges or fees would be due. Yes, paid in full at check in. Five days later at check out- Claudia and Octavia ? were there. I was told that there was another nearly five hundred dollars due that we had not paid in full. Round and round, she told me she called Allejandro at home but he did not answer. An hour later- tears and frustration - they got a hold of Allejandro who said yes, we were paid in full amd nothing else was due. Horrible experience. The front desk was trying to take more money and were not understanding. If you stay here, have them sign a receipt that states "paid in full, no balance due". They would not get me a general manager either. The first request at check out was to give them a 10 on ratings. They did not earn it. The tower by the river was closed- only half of the property was open.

Worth the money!

Cons: The swim up bar should be open past 6
Location: Zoo, Botanical garden, beach, downtown aprox 30 min away, snorkeling, hiking, adventure trips
From the very beginning, everything about this trip was amazing! Very nice and secluded place outside of town, almost the farthest resort from the airport (~45min drive), but that works in your favor. Staff were amazing in telling my gf and I about the local spots to go and how to get there. Staff made sure to always give you a drink in hand, food choices, travel options and maintained overall cleanliness. The Resort itself always has daily activities -volleyball, water aerobics, dance lessons, and nightly entertainment. The pools themselves are also very nice with waterfalls and hot tubs. There's also always adventures to do through the main company in the area- Adventure Vallarta. For those going for the 1st time, it is extremely humid (80%+) on most days. Don't worry too much if you don't speak any Spanish!
