The Butler's Pantry<br>One half of Victorian duplex
One half of a Victorian in downtown Rome, New York. Walking distance to Fort Stanwix. Located in the foothills of the Adirondacks, connected to snowmobile trails, and all the outdoors has to offer. Unit is completely refurbished with new carpet, paint, beds, and appliances. Has washer and dryer. Everything you need to be as comfortable as being at home. Unit has 2 double and 2 single beds. Can accommodate as many children as you need to. Pet friendly. Outside space for smoking. House is owner occupied with separating door secured by individual locks from both sides. Private entry for guests.
The house was clean and conveniently located. Coffee was provided. The stairs were steep to the bedrooms upstairs. I was disappointed that only a curtain separated the bedrooms. It was dark when we arrived, and it was a little difficult to know how to enter the house. However, overall we enjoyed our stay.
Good experience with this rent property manger was very understanding when we had issues on are way to property pleased experience when arriving to property
The duplex is nicely decorated with homey touches creating a relaxing environment. The beds were very comfortable. Very clean with lots of amenities. Easy walk to a few of my favorite restaurants in Rome, China House on James St and LaRomaâs on Floyd Ave and little grocery mart a half block away. Kristee is great host! Check was easy. Itâd be helpful to add to the instructions that its the duplex on the right as you approach through the gate and yard from the parking area.
3 couples stayed in this property for a weekend wedding. There were almost no options in the Rome area, so this was pretty much our only choice. While the reservation was easy to make, and the communication from the host was great, the property is not exactly as pictured online. The online listing shows a very quaint front porch with wicker chairs making the property look like a nice in-town location. Unfortunately, guests do not have access to the nice porch or that entrance at all. The entrance to the guest quarters is via a back alley, a chain link fence, and a pathway through a rough back yard-- it was an inner city location.
When we arrived, there were two large dogs in the yard, making us a bit uncertain about entering. The hostess came and called the dogs away, assuring us they were friendly. The walk to the back door involved passing a menacing pit bull in the yard next door-- we never felt at risk from him, but if you're not good with dogs, coming in at night with a dog barking loudly can be a bit unsettling.
Inside was clean but very cluttered with very dated and random decor. The pictures online are much less cluttered than what was actually there. Also, there was a very musty smell and the a/c upstairs really did not adequately cool the bedrooms. It was only in the low 80's when we were there, so I imagine it would have been unbearably hot in the bedrooms if it had been hotter outside. There was a strong cigarette smell, too, which seemed to come from next door.
The bedrooms were very small, had no doors, and the beds/pillows/etc. were of lesser quality than a typical hotel. The bathroom (only one, and it was on the second floor) was okay, but the shower was tiny and the shower head was only about 5 to 5 1/2 feet from the floor.
To get to the bathroom and bedrooms, you have to go up a very, very steep staircase-- not good for the old or injured.
Kitchen was well equipped and there was fresh half-and-half for the coffee.
Overall, I wish the listing had been more accurate to reality.
Kristee is a kind and conscientious host. The rooms were clean, but the online photo of the entrance is deceiving. The entrance shown is not for your space. You cannot enter your space through its front door, there's no lock in the door. The back door entrance has stairs that badly need repair. The stairs inside the house between the 1st & 2nd floors are very steep and narrow, tricky to maneuver. We wish her success with her repairs.
Kristee was a gracious and friendly host, who went above and beyond to make sure I and my family were comfortable. We were there for a funeral, and she even thought to clip my grandfather's obituary from the local paper so I could have a newsprint copy of it! The rental has all the things you would get from a hotel, plus more space, a great kitchen to cook in, and in-unit laundry! Very convenient to downtown Rome. Off street parking was helpful. Great water pressure and hot water :) she even asked how we take our coffee and made sure to have our preferred accompaniments available in our kitchen. Would definitely recommend.
There were 5 of us staying â 3 children and 2 adults. There was plenty of room, and we were very comfortable. Christee was very thoughtful and provided cream for our morning coffee. It was a very nice experience.
This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. The cute beautiful patio pictured is not your rented space, it's the owners' private space. She's dog friendly but the house and yard is not! You actually rent the back of her house that looks like it's under construction, the door frames aren't even framed out correctly with liquid foam exposed. The yard has holes in it and under the fence (probably from her 2 pit bulls she has and didn't tell us about) in addition to the yard, it has piles wood panels with 4 inch nails sticking straight up out of them. The house had a damp old smell to it. We did not stay here at all. It's in an unsafe area and the house is not safe to be in. The pictures she's showing doesn't match what is really there. The owner should have noted that she has 2 pitbulls. We have 2 teacup Chihuahuas and a Boston Terrier (he is blind). Her 2 pitbulls ran us out the house. The owner refuses to give us our money back and now going through it with HomeAway....we ended up staying at a motel 6 Suite and it was much better than this location. Beware staying here, the pictures are not what you get!!!
