Lovely building, very pleasant staff, room was nice and beds comfortable. We were seeing a show at the Crest and it was an easy walk to the venue. We didn’t love that our room was on the third floor and we had to lug our luggage up two flights of steps, a bit tough for us older folks. Also didn’t love our neighbors next store who were banging on the shared wall at 5am.
This is in heart of Sacramento downtown and in extremely scary neighborhoods. Even going out for dinner seems scary at night. I took a separate room individual room and it was literally 7x4 in size. There’s nothing in room. The property is scary old and everything is shaky. My bed headboard came out. If you add parking it’s almost equal to any ordinary hotel. So why go thru this. People are good here, well some of them. I asked for extra pillow, one just said no while other one gave in a minute. Well and well never coming back. If you can spend extra 10$ don’t come here.

Victorian era mansion, beautifully restored to the purpose of hospitality… could not believe my good fortune discovering this place… William Randolph, hurst one of the great names in American journalistic financial architectural and art preservationist and his entourage would have felt quite at home in those surroundings… pleasure of sitting in those rooms, make me feel as if I was being made to feel at home in the museum…. Not for five times the price could I have gotten a stay as nice near the center of Sacramento barely 15 minutes walk from Sacramento Valley Station. An outstanding experience will look forward to the hostelry international banner promoting cultural understanding among the special group of people see it wherever they go in the world.
Really nice staff very helpful with answering any questions I’d had because this was my first hostel stay. I will definitely be back! Only thing I’d complain about is the lighting being so so so so low in the private room.
The private single room had a 6" mattress on plywood. So it was not a particularly comfortable bed. I am also glad there was not a hot day during my stay, as the small fan in the room was pretty ineffectual at putting out any air.
The continental breakfast consisted of bread/english muffin, apples, nutrigrain bars and oatmeal. The convenience of a full kitchen could offset that if you were prepared.
The staff was super nice and helpful.
Nice hostel and very welcoming to an elder person like myself. Non-discriminatory policy was evident. Great historic ambiance. Courteous staff.
It was a pleasant temperature in Sacramento so no air conditioner nor heater was required. We had the windows open to let in the air but there are no screens on the windows so mosquitos came in and I was pretty bitten up by the morning.
It is unclear as to whether they have air conditioning or not.
They don't have an ice machine or ice available.
Nice game room with a pool table, pinball, and foosball machines in the basement.
Its too bad they don't have lounge chairs on the veranda.
Desk was always staffed but a lot of homeless in the area so the front door was always locked.
Very well managed.
This Victorian mansion is a hidden gem of Sacramento. Exquisitely and tastefully decorated. Nice cozy rooms, clean, shared kitchen and bathrooms, and most of all, amazingly welcoming, kind, and helpful staff. I definitely recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Sacramento. I know I'll definitely come back.
