Great location with easy access to a beautiful beach. Walk to some restaurants and very short drive to others. House is a casita on an estate property and the caretaker lives in a smaller house close by. He was very helpful with any questions or needs we had. The house was simple but adequate and had no central hot water just heated shower heads, which was fine for us. Enjoyed our mornings and evenings on the beautiful patio soaking in the amazing view. Thanks for a wonderful stay!!
Casa Carmen - canât wait to come back for year 3!
This was our familyâs second year returning to casa carmen. ÂĄit's just so good! It is exactly as advertised. Clean, well equipped, safe, and 25 steps from the beach. Special kudos to property manager diego for helping us get reacquainted with playa penca, potrero, and the surrounding areas. Do yourself a favor, donât stay up in the hills. Stay on the beach, in a local neighborhood, within walking distance of multiple markets and our favorite potrero restaurant, las brisas.
A lovely place on a local beach as opposed to a tourist one. We had worried we would be too hot, but we holed up inside about 1-4 pm and otherwise hung out outside w. Morning and evening swims. Would easily come back.
This house is in the best location if you are looking for a more authentic Costa Rica experience. An hour drive from the airport if you take the monkey trail. Walking distance to few great places to eat for breakfast- Carpe Diem, Italian next door to that and ice cream and seafood across the street. The best part is we were so close to the most amazing semi private beach. We loved being able to walk back to the house for lunch, drinks or to take a break from the sun. Sunsets on this beach are amazing. The house was nothing fancy but very clean and well maintained. No hot water but that never bothered us. It provided what we needed as we didnât spend much time in the actual house. The patio and yard were our favorite part. We ate out there and could hear and see the ocean as we dinned. The property manger was kind and helpful. He offered us boogie boards which was a huge hit with kids. We were a short drive to other cities that were great for exploring like Las Catalinas (9 min drive)- where we went mountain biking and Flamingo (15 min drive) where we went deep sea fishing. Potreroâs more downtown (5 minute drive) had a great brewery and more restaurants that were yummy. The sailing center there has things like SUP boards to rent for the day and a yoga studio with a variety of classes everyday. So much to do and all so very close!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Carmen. The house and grounds were immaculate, and the grounds keeper Diego very friendly. Pelada beach in front of the property is stunning; crystal clear water, golden sand, few people and extremely clean. There we met Ricardo who sells coco locos (his own drink made of rum and coco nut water served in a coco nut) on the beach. Give them a try if youâre there. We also enjoyed Potrero and the surrounding area, where we found great places for seafood and margaritas by the seaside. Overall very happy and would be thrilled to come back here.
Arrived and there was no hot water, front door locked and couldnât be opened from I side so had to climb out a window to unlock it from the outside but none of the windows opened properly so had to jack one in the kitchen open to even get out (major fire safety hazard).
Kitchen lacked the basics - no large bowls, no tongs, no strainerâŠ
Gardeners were there from 6:30am - 3pm one day blasting all the machines all day and then the next day it was the neighbors so two days of constant noise and gas smell. Internet was in and out and the entire house smelled of damp/ mold. The manager was so slow at responding, we went three days without hot water.
