I stayed at this atrocity in Toronto because I had an international layover. The Pembroke Inn states their rooms are meticulously designed & mine was something out of a nightmare.After paying $253 USD plus they put a $200 extra hold on your credit card for "damages". It was kind of ironic they did this, because the room was already tore up before we got there. I stayed in Room 119. The hallways were dark & dank. There's a homeless encampment about 200 ft from this hotel made up of tents. I felt that I was in a terribly unsafe part of town. Their website states - "The well-appointed private bathrooms are designed to offer a spa-like experience. Step into the sleek, modern shower..." Please look at my bathroom pictures and ask yourself if the shower looks "spa-like." I encountered tons of mold and ceilings that looked like they may fall down. The shower did not drain properly and you stand in about an inch and a half of that moldy water. Then there was the rusty towel rack/toilet paper holder in the bathroom. Coming out of the bathroom & heading to bed, I stubbed my toe on a piece of laminate flooring that had peeled up (see floor picture). I booked this hotel because it was supposedly "right near" the Distillery District and I thought I'd see Toronto while I was on layover. The Distillery District turned out to be at least a 35 min walk through a shady part of town. To the owner of this atrocity - have at least a little pride and get some work ethic and clean it up. Awful.

I came to Toronto for a college visit and regretfully did not read the reviews on this hotel.The area around the hotel is the scariest place. There is no parking and the staff sent me to a public parking lot around the corner. The two tugs there wanted only cash, $25 for less than 24h. The place was run down and scary too.When I wanted to leave they told me I parked there so I have to pay, they would not let me leave, they said that the parking lot is private as well. My phone is not working in Canada so I couldn’t call the police.
When I asked the staff if the area around is safe they told me the area is ok, it is NOT. Don’t ever stay in this property if you value your safety. We try to go out and find something to eat, there is only rundown places and scary drug addicts, garbage and used syringes. We decided to skip dinner and stay in the room. Unfortunately I cannot sleep the air conditioner is very loud but if you switch it off you will listen to some one else’s tv so no matter.
The only good thing is that the room was clean, we should be thankful for that, but no fridge or coffee as other reviewers had said.
Unfortunately my son will never consider UToronto no matter the great ratings they have.
