Tomasso and Ela are fabulous hosts! We were able to reach them immediately with any questions and their response was immediate. Ela is a sensational cook! I highly recommend a cooking class with Ela and meals prepared by her. Beautiful area of the country!
Words cannot express how fabulous our stay was at Villa Sogora! So much space, so historic and the grounds were out of this world! Having a private pool on site took the experience to another level. We had 10 family members flying in from different countries and the check-in was as easy as could be! We arranged for a private wine, olive oil, local food tasting at the villa one day, a cooking class on another and finally a home cooked meal to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with our entire family. Tommaso and Ella are simply amazing hosts! Besides teaching us about wine (the wine and olive oil made at the estate were excellent and we are so looking forward to receiving the BIG shipment of what we ordered!), cooking and feeding us an unbelievable multi-course dinner, they are truly wonderful people. They went over and above what you'd wish for, especially with no one in our group knowing the area. They connected us with a car service (excellent!), had groceries waiting for us, arranged with a local vendor to have breakfast set up on our first morning and brought over a compression bandage when one daughter sprained her ankle! If we could rate this experience higher, we would!
A stunning villa set in its own vineyard, a short hop from Verona. The owners [Thommaso and Ela] were exceptionally kind, welcoming and helpful. All queries were answered in advance. check-in was simple and we even got a guided tour of the property and a very nice welcome gift - would recommend the "house" red and champagne - both excellent. The villa was huge and contained wonderful furniture and artefacts which really fitted well. The rooms are huge - every one had a writing desk - a nice touch. We were a group of ten friends and we all enjoyed it immensely.Everyone found their own spot - be it by the pool , on the terrace, or in one of the many little rooms to read, snooze, chat and enjoy.Verona, Venice, Lake Garda, Soave and many more within easy reach. We had a great time and would like to thank Tommaso and Ela for being such kind hosts.Would definitely recommend.
This villa is lovely and old and very spacious. The hosts are beyond charming and so helpful. We were able to enjoy being in the country while also being very proximate to cities, towns, wine tasting and other activities, like hilltop hiking. The kitchen was not the most convenient for home cooking for Americans used to a more modern kitchen, but we managed. Our hostess made our first dinner, which was so nice and so delicious. This is an optional add-on.
We were a group of 10 (7 adults, 2 children and 1 infant) staying at Villa Sogara for a week in July of 2024. The house was a great base for exploring Verona and many other cities / areas in the surroundings. The pool and AC in the bed rooms were really appreciated in what was a very hot and humid week. The old house is full of charm and quirks and worked well for a large group. Details such as the two dishwashers, two fridges and elevator to the first floor for e.g. heavy luggage, were REALLY convenient! The house is in bucolic surroundings yet a quick 20 min drive from the historic part of Verona - couldnât be better!
If you are dreaming of a truly authentic experience look no further! We were a party of 12 including a 4 year old and 1 1/2 year old. The bedrooms are quite large and there are all kinds of nooks if you want some privacy. Ela taught us how to make pasta and risotto. Tommaso gave us a wine tasting with the wines that are produced from the grapes on the property. 12 out of 10!!
The hosts were amazing. They went way above and beyond to help us with all our travel arrangements. The villa was beautiful, we felt like we had stepped into the past. The grounds were peaceful and quiet. It could not have been more lovely.
My family (6 adult, 1 18 yo, and 1 9 yo) stayed for 8 days on the property. The host Tommaso was amazing from our initial contact to reserve the Villa to the day of checkout. The Villa was clean and spacious and provided a central location for us to make day trips to Verona, Venice, Florence, and Lake Garda. Taxi service from Verona was easy to arrange, although we rented 2 cars for the week as well.
I'm surprised by some of the reviews about the property being in need of updating. It was clear to me after my conversations with Tommaso that the family property was built 600 years ago, renovated in the early 20th century, and then again updated (mainly to the bathrooms and kitchen) in the early 21st century. As such, sometimes the floors creaked and the fixtures were older. It's located in the hillsides of the Verona province on vineyards, so it is a rustic property. But this is what we were looking for. We wanted a place that was comfortable, uniquely Italian with period furnishings and a luxurious yet homely feel. I got exactly that at Villa Sogara.
My only issue was that Wifi and cellular service could be spotty at the edges of the Villa. But overall, wifi was available and predominantly fast enough.
The surrounding village was easily accessible and convenient. My family members are already planning a return visit.
I'd highly recommend this property and the host to anyone looking to spend time in the area.
A historic site, with beautiful furniture, spacious rooms and a cozy kitchen all in the middle of a vineyard with a beautiful view. The host was very helpful and we tasted a great wine from his vineyard.
Very nice property and Tomasso was a wonderful host. Gave us good information and made the stay very nice. We also had a dinner that Tomasso and Ela prepared for us. It was excellent!
A wonderful authentic historic family villa. Tomaaso and his family have a passion for the property and the surrounding vineyards, wine & food. Very attentive, always pleased to help. A place of timeless beauty, Donât expect sleek and modern, But with adequate AC and excellent internet, that was enough for us. We shall remember a wonderful 3 weeks there.
We loved the history and the beauty of the surrounding vineyards. The pool was convent and villa was clean. It was easy to drive to the market and go sight seeing. Thomas was a kind man and helped us all questions.
House feels full of stories and perfect for a large group.
The upstairs is sprawling with plenty of comfortable bedrooms for a crowd as well as communal spaces to either gather or quiet corners to get away. The downstairs has a very practical and complete kitchen / laundry / dining areas. The outdoor spaces were our favorites, though, the covered porch/dining area, upstairs loggia, and pool. The pool is clean and fresh and is situated so there is shade in the afternoon. A gate can be closed to protect young kids, and you can hear the pool from the kitchen to supervise teens. The location is near a small town, but not close enough to walk. With a car it is easy to visit Lake Garda and Verona as well as lesser-known (relaxed and not overtouristed!) areas such as Mantova and Vicenza. Venice, Parma, and many other attractions are within an hour. We especially enjoyed the warm welcome of the owners and the tasting they arranged of local products, including of the vines and olive trees on the property.
This was a marvelous backdrop for a family reunion and exploring northern Italy. We hope to one day return in other seasons and share with other friends!
We were warmly welcomed by tommasso and family and greatly enjoyed the wine tasting with charcuterie (best. Wine tasting I have ever experienced), and the full course meal on a separate day. His wife is a phenomenal cook and it was worth every penny. Thank you again tommaso!
