A 1990s split-level Earthship — one of the early experimental models — now becoming a future artist retreat. Casa Mesa is raw, imperfect, and absolutely real. Think off-grid glamping inside a piece of architecture, not hotel living. Be among the first to stay and witness its transformation.
Inside, you’ll find a simple studio layout: a Murphy bed, a functional bathroom with a bathtub, passive-solar warmth supported by a wood stove, and minimal furnishings while renovations are still underway.
Systems you can count on:
• Brand-new solar batteries, inverter & controller
• Fresh-water pump and pressure tank recently replaced
• Four EcoFlow backup batteries for additional electricity on cloudy days or heavy-usage moments
• Upstairs refrigerator available for light use
What is still rustic or imperfect:
• Greywater system has issues
• A power monitor is not yet installed — guests cannot see remaining charge
• Décor is minimal and artistic elements are still being built
• Comfort level varies with weather, energy use, and fire-wood availability
This stay is for travelers who want experience — not luxury.
It is glamping meets Earthship architecture: quiet desert nights, sunrise through passive solar glass, long bathtubs, wood heat 360 mountain views, and a feeling of living with the land rather than above it.
