At Bearâs Rest, we are unable to accommodate any type of snow plow to the roads or driveway based on its fantastic mountain location. This means that if there is an inclement storm that could effect your reservation, it could be altered or refunded. Safety is the top priority during winter reservation months.
Absolutely the best weekend at the most peaceful and relaxing property that we have ever stayed at! Second year in a row celebrating our anniversary there. Plan to book next year as well! Martha took such immaculate care of the home! SPOTLESS!!!
Beautiful setting atop a mountain not far from downtown Brevard. Interior and exterior of the house was well maintained. House had all of the amenities to make for a restful week vacation. The wrap around deck offered a breath-taking view of the mountains in the surrounding area. The host was quick to respond during booking period and to answer a question we had while there. All directions were clear and thorough.
nothing but perfect. love watching the sun raise. love the fog blanket the mountains in the mornings. love the peaceful all the time. this was the honeymoon my wife and i never got.
Such a beautiful house in a beautiful location! Exactly as described. Very comfortable and clean. We had such a lovely quick getaway. Easy to get to close hiking spots. Would definitely return to stay again! Thank you for the memories.
Clean and fairly well stocked. The cookware was only fair. Approach road is difficult to navigate in pea soup fog (which is what we had for the first two nights). House was very spacious and was furnished nicely. It would have been better if the steps into the house had been blown off. They were completely covered in leaves, which were wet and slippery. Overall, we had a wonderful and very restful stay and we loved the gas logs. View is execellent, once the clouds lifted on Wednesday afternoon. We will definitely come back. Hopefully the coffemaker will be replaced by then. It was pretty grody looking.
We arrived late at night and the property felt like you were quite remote -- which can be good or bad. Apple maps took us right there.
The check in instructions were good but lacked some information inside the unit. Some of the sheets were not clean and there was no ice in the fridge. One of the fuses had tripped and the panel was not accessible. The AC was struggling to keep up with the summer heat.
Lack of cleanliness of bed linens put things on the wrong footing but property has great potential.
We enjoyed our time in the area, which offers great hiking and waterfall experiences. Town was cute and had some good restaurants.
The property listing grossly underestimates the time it takes to get into town. We found it took almost 10 minutes to get down the steep drive to the main road, and another 10 or so to get in to Brevard. This was a drawback for us.
Icemaker mentioned in listing was not working. Pick up a bag of ice in town before you go up the mountain.
Showerheads in both bathrooms were very low output; you had to really work to get wet and then to rinse off.
The wonderful view from the porch was partially blocked by an overgrown tree smack in the middle of the vista; trimming it would greatly improve things.
Kitchen is reasonably well outfitted for cooking, and the gas grill is a nice touch.
If we return to the area, we will look for something a bit closer in.
The property is great. Everything you need is there, and the view is priceless. Beautiful sunrises every day were awesome. I would recommend getting there in the daylight the first time, as the driveway is exciting. 100 percent would recommend.
We've stayed at 15+ homes and have had great experiences. Unfortunately, not here. 1. Finding the property is difficult because there is no clear signage of where to turn off the shared road. The directions reference turning at a mailbox, but the mailbox numbers are not legible. Adding a sign would make things easier.
2. The driveway is very steep and windy. It is very tight if you have a long-wheelbase vehicle, and it is also washing away in several sections.
3. The kitchen, bathrooms, furnishings, and appliances need to be updated. When renting a mountain home at this price point, you expect a certain level of quality. For example, the refrigerator water needs to be hooked up for water/ice, and the ice trays are cracked. The refrigerator is also missing a shelf. We can write about a dozen issues like this, but the post would be too long.
4. The home has AC units, not central air. They run constantly and are loud in the summer heat. This constant mechanical noise ruins the ambiance of the mountain setting. You canât hear any of the sounds of nature. If you turn off the AC units and try to run the ceiling fans in the bedrooms, the noise is even worse.
5. The mountain views from the porch are blocked. The undergrowth and tree limbs have not been trimmed in many years, drastically reducing the long-range mountain views.
6. The gutters are clogged and have small brush growing in them. Although this did not affect our stay, it raised concern about the home's overall upkeep.
A beautiful visit! The view is worth a stay, very peaceful and private. Close to many great amenities in Brevard and tons of hiking and outdoor activities. Pay attention to the access, the drive is long, narrow (one way) and extremely steep gravel. Also the address takes you to the incorrect location, the turnoff is the next one down off walnut hollow called Henry mountain Rd. If you take the first whipperwill you end up in someone's yard, yikes.
Wonderful sunrise views from this mountaintop setting. Very quiet and peaceful; just far enough from town to feel like you're in the country, but close enough to run in town for a meal. Comfortable bedding with memory foam matresses. Great stay!
My wife and I took our 3 month old on a short weekend getaway and we enjoyed this home very much! Ver cozy and clean and the view is perfect. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay here again on our next trip.
Drive to the property is steep gravel road. We encountered a few harmless spiders in the corners of hallway or bathrooms that were easily dispatched. The blind over the door at the end of the hall doesn't fonalway the way to the bottom of the glass. The air was a little humid when we arrived but that was quickly resolved with the units in the home. These minor issues were the only negatives for my family. The porch and views were incredible. Even though we didn't cook on our short stay, the kitchen is very nice and guests could cook if they wanted. The fireplace was nice and would be enjoyable in cool weather. The wifi worked well. We were able to use the smart TV and Roku to stream our indoor entertainment. We've stayed in the area many times so we were plased with the location and the quiet seclusion of the property. My boys enjoyed the upstairs bedroom. I also was very pleased with the responsiveness of the owner. I would recommend this property if you are looking for a secluded getaway with great views.
Bear's Rest was exactly that! We hiked all day in Dupont and retreated to the top of a mountain for a great night's rest. The views were spectacular.
Caution- they are not kidding about the drive...it's steep...well worth it!
