The Trackside Depot, Hot Tub and Private Patio
Summary:
Like all of our Wauhatchie Woodlands cabins, the Train Depot is a rustic getaway at the foot of Lookout Mountain. This unique lodging pays homage to Chattanooga's history as a famous railroad hub. It features 20-foot ceilings, a fully equipped kitchen, and an outdoor living room with a private hot tub.
The Space:
Located just off then site where the historic Chattanooga railway passes into the Lookout Mountain tunnel, this unique lodging is themed to Chattanooga’s history as a rail hub. Inside you’ll find a 20ft lofted ceiling. Up the staircase is the sleeping area equipped with a luxurious queen bed and a workstation flanked by photos of historic Chattanooga. Under the loft is the spacious tiled bathroom and kitchenette, complete with over, stove top, microwave, and refrigerator.
Out the side door is the spacious outdoor living room with built in fans. Relax on the sofa, grill up some dinner, or take a soak in your own private hot tub. Guests must provide their own charcoal.
We are pleased to allow dogs at The Depot, under specific terms and conditions. See our house rules/notes for more information.
Pack ‘n Play Travel cribs are available upon request.
Please note that the Depot is adjacent to an active train line, so light sleepers beware.
Sprout General Store recently opened on the Wauhatchie Woodlands grounds. Grab a coffee (fueled by Roasted Root Cafe) to start your morning, treat yourself to ice cream, pick up a map with activity ideas, and browse Timberroot merch and local goods—everything you need is within just steps of your cabin.
To make sure your stay at Wauhatchie Woodlands is perfect, our locally based Guest Services representatives are on-call from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm, seven days a week.
Guest Access:
You’ll have the entire Depot, as well as the covered outdoor living room with hot tub to yourself during your stay.
The Depot is located on the edge of Wauhatchie Woodlands, a 14-acre property surrounded by National Forest. Guests have access to trails around the grounds, as well as shared pavilions, community fire pits, and playground. Please be respectful of other guests during your stay.
The Neighborhood:
Wauhatchie Woodlands sits in Lookout Valley, a scenic pocket of Southeast Tennessee tucked between the Tennessee River and the base of Lookout Mountain. It’s close enough to Chattanooga to explore, yet far enough to feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center is nestled right at the base of the mountain with 12 miles of hiking trails and canoe rentals to paddle scenic Lookout Creek. Those trails connect directly up the mountain, where Rock City, Ruby Falls, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns round out the adventure. When you're ready for a bite or a night out, downtown Chattanooga is only minutes away.
There’s a lot happening in and around Lookout Mountain this summer. Rock City is running a season-long America 250 celebration featuring new art installations, mountaintop music, and Americana-themed events. The new Erlanger Park is only minutes away, where the Chattanooga Lookouts are playing their inaugural season with themed nights, fireworks, and live music all summer. Free concerts downtown run every Friday night at Nightfall in Miller Plaza through July 31, and every Saturday at Riverfront Nights at Ross’s Landing through September 5. Wauhatchie Woodlands is a perfect home base for all this summer fun!
Getting Around:
To make the most of your stay, we recommend a car to get around. The Depot can accommodate two cars in its private driveway.
UBER and Lyft are available throughout the Chattanooga area, in addition to a number of local taxi services. Please note that availability may be extremely limited during peak times.
The city of Chattanooga offers reasonably priced parking on the street and in several public parking lots.
A free electric shuttle bus runs between the Chattanooga Choo Choo and the Tennessee Aquarium with stops at every block. The buses run every 15 minutes, Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 9:30 am to 11 pm, and Sunday from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm. Bus schedules may vary, please consult the Chattanooga Area Regional Transit Authority website for the most up to date schedules.
Bike Chattanooga offers bike share rentals at 42 self-service kiosk locations all around downtown Chattanooga. With over 300 bicycles and 50 e-bikes this is a great way to explore the city. Visit Bike Chattanooga’s website to learn more.
Other Things to Note:
Trains & Noise:
Chattanooga is a city known for its railroads. There are active train tracks that border the property and I-24 is about half a mile away. Please note that light sleepers may be affected by the ambient city and train noise. Each cabin has been equipped with a white noise machine to help minimize any disturbance.
Pet Policy:
We are pleased to allow dogs at The Depot, under specific terms and conditions. See our house rules/notes for more information.
No Smoking:
Smoking, vaping, and the use of e-cigarettes are prohibited inside Timberroot properties.
Refer to the rental agreement to see these policies and the additional fees that occur if you fail to follow them.
Pests:
We take great care to ensure our properties are free from pests. Our properties are regularly treated by professional pest control and our staff takes preventative measures to keep pests out.
However, as our properties are located in wooded areas, it is possible for guests to encounter insects and/or small woodland creatures like mice. If you do encounter an unwelcome pest inside your lodging, please contact our Guest Services team immediately so that our grounds team can address the problem as quickly as possible. We ask that guests help us prevent pests by keeping doors and window screens closed and maintaining proper cleanliness during their stay.
By booking with us, you accept that encountering insects and woodland creatures is a possibility and that no refunds will be issued for such instances.
Surveillance Cameras:
Please note that for your safety, cabins may have a camera located on the front porch, facing outwards monitoring activity in front of the cabin (including driveway and roads).
Check-In/Out:
Check-in begins at 4:00 pm on the day of your arrival and check-out is at 10:00 am on your last day. Please contact Guest Services if you would like to request a different arrangement.
Interaction with Guests:
The Depot is equipped with keyless entry systems that make check-in and check-out a fully automated process. Full instructions will be provided prior to your check-in date.
If you have any questions, comments, or experience any difficulties during your stay, our team of dedicated, locally based Guest Services representatives are on-call and available to help from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm every day.
