Flights To Kyoto
Kyoto served as Japan's Imperial capital for over one thousand years, and the bountiful culture and beauty of the city make this instantly apparent. If you're studying your options for flights to Kyoto, you'll want to focus on two airports in nearby Osaka: Osaka-Itami International Airport (ITM), which is closer, but offers mainly domestic flights, and Kansai International Airport (KIX), a larger international transportation hub and the primary point of arrival for most tourists to the region.
Transportation From ITM and KIX
Kyoto flights that land at ITM put tired passengers just a short distance from many comfortable hotels. Regardless of the accommodation included in Travelocity's Kyoto vacation packages, keep your options for airport travel in mind. If you fly into ITM, there are buses that run between the airport and Kyoto. Just buy a ticket at one of the machines outside the arrival hall and head to the appropriate boarding area; the trip takes just under an hour. You can also take the monorail to connect with two rail lines that will take you to Kyoto. If, however, you land at KIX, simply hop on the JR Haruka Airport Express, which will take you to Kyoto in just 75 minutes. Reserve a ticket in advance for a slight discount. As in ITM, there are also buses available here. When you arrive in Kyoto, make a quick stop to drop your bags at the hotel and begin your exploration of Kyoto's vivid cultural heritage. Visit hundreds upon hundreds of Buddhist shrines, or take a scenic hike in the surrounding mountains. The city boasts no less than 14 UNESCO World Heritage sites, so there is plenty to keep you busy throughout your stay!
