Great Location - Excellent Communication

Posted Apr. 20, 2024 on HomeAway
We booked this home for two nights before we (6 adults) sailed away on a cruise! Location is great- 15 minutes to cruise terminal. We loved the park across the street with numerous iguanas & a canal. Very serene & pretty. The house itself is very suitable for 6 adults with its 3 bedrooms and two and 1/2 baths. Beds were comfortable and the A/C was excellent. The house definitely needs some tender loving care. The plug-ins in the upstairs bathrooms were missing wall-plates & did not work. Being in my late 60’s — banisters on the stairs are needed— it is a safety issue for me. Oliver was easy to communicate with— very accommodating. The issues we had— he was very receptive to.

Thank you for your review Jenny. It was a pleasure communicating with you. In regards to the outlets. As explained to the guests, so many guests abuse the one outlet in the house and we leave an extension cord as an immediate backup plan. In regards to a safety issue, there is certainly no safety issues and never has been, banisters would be an eye sore and not needed. Over the last 10 years, we have had over thousand guests stay in the property and this is the first time anyone has said anything about the stairs.

Can’t beat the location! Oliver was very communicative throughout the entire process and provided great recommendations of local restaurants.

Owner was great, but...

Posted Apr. 3, 2024 on HomeAway
Oliver, the owner, was very sweet, and the communication was wonderful. Check-in was easy, the location was perfect for what we wanted (family was a short walk away, in the Las Olas River House), and the house is very cute on the exterior. However, the interior is, at best, "sparse." There are no comforters or spreads on the beds, just sheets and velour blankets, there are no side tables or lights next to the beds, slats are broken in the blinds, none of the outlets in the bathrooms work (necessitating a VERY long extension cord plugged in in the bedroom and snaked into the bathroom in order to use a curing iron or hairdryer), the back door has a deadbolt, but it wasn't engaged (and one needed a key to lock it), the upstairs balcony railing was unsafe, spare sheets are balled up and shoved in a closet under the stairs and in one of the bedroom closets, and while there is amazing original art in the home, it was all on the floor, leaning against the walls. In addition, there are no ceiling fans, and the air conditioner is not really sufficient (and there is a note stating that you can't lower the temperature without breaking the unit, and incurring a fee). I think that this COULD be a very cute property, but it's not quite there yet.

I am in complete and utter disbelief from this renters review. This review does not directly depict the text message exchanges I had with this renter. On multiple occasions, the guest expressed that she had an amazing time with her family in the property and how lovely the home was. I discussed the AC unit rules with this renter, and explicitly stated that these house rules did not apply to these guests. From the beginning of March to Halfway through April, we are concerned with spring breakers abusing the AC units, which can result in affecting future guests. In regards to the paintings off the walls. These are my father's paintings; I take only two paintings off the wall so individuals do not accidentally knock the paintings off the wall, damaging the frames. They hold very sentimental value to our family. They are standing upright in a beautiful position; per the guest's text message, she loved the paintings and understood since she has had vacation rentals in the past. Regarding the disorganization of the spare sheets this is just simply not true. Also, this renter was only in the property for three nights, so I don't know why spare sheets would be needed. Furthermore, this is not a fair characterization of our lovely home.

Great Spot for a Night Before Our Cruise

Posted Mar. 29, 2024 on HomeAway
I would give 4.5 stars if that were an option. The location of the house was convenient and easy to find. It had an attractive exterior and ample parking spaces. Oliver, the host, was exceptionally accommodating and addressed all of our inquiries promptly. He even reached out to me personally to ensure a smooth stay, considering we were arriving from Canada for a cruise and staying only for a night. Oliver greeted us upon arrival and departure, which was a nice touch. The house was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with amenities to comfortably accommodate three couples. The kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed. The dining area adjacent to the kitchen was slightly cramped for six adults, but we made it work for our meals and game night. The bedrooms were all located upstairs, one of the bedrooms had a private balcony with ample seating and lush plantings providing an enjoyable space for relaxation and afternoon cocktails. The second washroom located in one of the upstairs bedrooms is quite small and not suitable for larger people. Some of the electrical outlets did not work in the upstairs washrooms, despite trying to reset the GFIs. Extention cords were provided to utilize the electrical outlets from the bedrooms however, the electrical outlet issues were an area of concern.

Perfect for our short stay in Ft. Lauderdale before cruise

Posted Feb. 5, 2024 on HomeAway
Oliver was fantastic to deal with. He even brought a football and basketball over to the house when he knew we had tween and teen boys with us. The location near the park was great and super easy to the airport and cruise port. The old house charm with new renovation was great. We would definitely stay there again.

Short stay in quaint neighborhood

Posted Jan. 15, 2024 on HomeAway
Loved the place, letting you feel a little like old(ish) days South Florida. The house is a great place for family/ group of 4-6 people, with good connections to highway and downtown, and yet in a quiet walkable hood next to the water and parks. The best was the communication with the host, Oliver answering any question within minutes, helping whatever the issue. There's room to park your car(s) on side of the house in the narrow alley, good enough for us. Kitchen is old, but well stacked yet don't plan to cook complicated meals for the whole family 3 times a day. Washer and dryer are there (didn't use), old, large fridge, dishwasher and microwave, oven and stove, even a coffee grinder (yay), but no toaster. There are also two dining tables/ areas on the ground floor, large living room with nice seating and a toilet. Upstairs 3 bedrooms (two with a king size and one with 2 individual beds) and a terrace, two bathrooms (a larger one with great two! shower heads in one cabin, allowing a couple to shower simultaneously), and a tinieee second bathroom (shower and sink). Should work well if you're not too picky about 'personal space'. You can even open the new windows in one of the bedrooms. Good bedding! Our only issue was with the all-over old state of appliances and house itself. If you're prepared to oversee some little things that don't work properly/ have seen their best days a while ago, you'll certainly enjoy your stay there.

Thank you for your review! It was a pleasure communicating with you from Switzerland! I would like to address some of the misleading commentary. We certainly have a toaster in the house, when I stopped by the property to say hello you had expressed how happy you were with the house and everything was great. Our home is over 1800 sq ft.² and can fit up to 10 people in the property. All of our kitchen appliances (fridge, oven, microwave, etc) are all less than 2 years old. Everything in the property is working properly. Again, thank you for the review and for staying at our property!
