Pleasant stay in a quirky suite decorated with Victorian fixtures and fittings. Spacious rooms with all mod cons. Good pub food although continental breakfast was over priced. Worth the stay for the nostalgic atmosphere.

Charming and quaint

This charming historic hotel on the main 6 highway was an enjoyable stay for one night. One had to eat there as there were no other restaurants nearby, but the dinner was excellent and the restaurant/bar area pleasant. The continental breakfast was adequate. However as they had kept the 1876 hotel in keeping with the age of the property the furniture in the room was old and bulky and hence used up a great deal of available space in the room. There was a TV but it was very small.

Lovely querky hotel, lovely lady @ reception - very helpful. Good food served on site, bar and al a carte menu. Ideal having arrived @ Greymouth on Tranzalpine train and heading for fox glacier.
