Bradwell is a large, pretty village with narrow winding streets that are set up a hillside. There are a number of good pubs serving food (most allowing children, dogs and muddy boots), together with a well-stocked convenience store, fish and chip shop, small cafe and locally renowned ice cream shop. Popular with walkers and cyclists, fabulous countryside surrounds the village with various tracks and routes radiating from the area. Mam Tor and Bradwell Edge are probably the most famous local viewpoints and are well worth a visit, with the outstanding breathtaking scenery as a reward. Golf, horse riding, hand gliding, rock climbing, caving and fishing are also available throughout the area.
The beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and the larger village of Tideswell are both around a 10-minute drive away. In nearby Hathersage, also 10 minutesâ, you will find excellent amenities together with a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. The ever popular market town of Bakewell, Chatsworth House and the spa town of Buxton can all be reached in under half an hour, and for any big (or little) kids, Alton Towers theme park is around an hour away. There are excellent transport links to and from the village with Hope railway station only minutes away, being on the direct line for Manchester and Sheffield. Just returned from a great weekend in this lovely cosy cottage.
Just returned from a great weekend in this lovely cosy cottage. Great location, good fire, walks staright from the doot and nor far to the pub! ! Would definitely return.
We stayed in Fern Cottage for a week and the stay was lovely from start to finish. Ruth was contactable and checked on us at the start and at the end without being intrusive. The cottage is well equipped and the area has everything you need for a lovely British staycation.
Parking can be a little difficult but always space on the street just down the hill (approx 20-50yards) depending on where you can get a space. Be warned the roads are very narrow and steep but adds to the village character.
Lovely cottage and lovely area to explore the Peak District.

Fern cottage is a charming little cottage, set in an area where it wasnĂąâŹâąt too far to walk to the local Co-op and pub, (understandably the fish & chip shop was closed for Christmas/New year holidays) and we parked our cars not too far away from the cottage. If you like steep hills and narrow roads in an area full of character, surrounded with lots more character houses then this will suit you - it did for us and we would definitely like to go back there! We stayed (5 adults) for 4 nights during Christmas it self, if we could have stayed longer we would have. On arrival we were met with a lovely selection of mince pies, biscuits, jam, port, including dog biscuits etc. The living room looked lovely and inviting with Christmas decorations, it had a lovely fire place/wood burner and it was very clean and homely, in fact the whole cottage felt and looked that way! A perfect place to get away, as there is a lot to see in the Peak District, with beautiful views and some great walks!
